Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
I started my new job working at a factory last week. I work full time, 50 hours a week, and still go to school full time.
My co-workers at my station are pretty cool... they are all car guys. I work with two people in my area, one is a guy who came from Poland like 20 years ago, and another is a guy named Soukie, who is all about imports lol. Well, my first day last week, we were all talking about our cars, and I said I had a '92 Camaro RS. Chris, the guy from Poland, turned around and said "Really? I had three '92 RS Camaro's!" so I was thinking, this guy and I are going to get along great! Well, I never asked him much about his previous cars until this week... on Monday. He wrapped all three of them around tree's! Two of them were crashed when he was drunk (he's an idiot lol) and one he totalled on purpose because he hated the car and wanted the insurance money. He complains about not being able to get a cheap rate for auto insurance now... duh, you wonder why...
He goes on everyday, "Those things are pieces of sh*t". I bought my first RS in '94, with 20k miles on it. It was two years old... I paid $5,000 for it. Piece of junk, 305tbi..." he's a big guy so I just said, "I love mine!". He gave me a look and went on... "I bought my second RS, another 305, in '96. It was four years old... $4,000... now does that tell you anything about what kind of car you are driving???" I stood my ground and said again... "I love my car". Lol so now he goes on to say his Third '92 RS was a white one... a 3.1, and it was so crappy he intentionally crashed it. He gives me hell all day long for having an Automatic RS, even though it's getting swapped to a 5-speed. He's driving me nuts.
I got really p*ssed yesteday when he told me he wanted to race his '86 3-speed Automatic Audi he bought for $50, and if he won, he'd take my car and crash it right in front of me.
He was a mechanic for the past 15 years, ASE certified and all that BS... just goes on all day... it's getting really old!
Is anything he's saying true? Could you really get an 305 RS with all the options except leather for $4,000 when it was only 4 years old?
So anyways, my point being... you all wonder where all the Thirdgens went... to people like this... and then crushed.

I'm affraid to park mine in the company lot, he said he'd probably smash the windows out of it.

Re: Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
He crashed them because he sucks at driving, not because the car sucks. I had 2 friends both who purchased an 87 iroc from my buddy and an 89 from him later on. Both of these guys ended up totalling these cars only to have them scrapped for money. First one was an 87 IROC, single bar wheels, 350tpi, bored, chipped etc. GONE! Second was the 89 IROC with 60k, 305tpi, perfect no rust at all condition, prestine car was smashed head on into the corner of a wall, A WALL. Completely totaled, the frame was off front to back by about 12". Completely twisted the frame all to hell, snapped the rear end in 2 pieces, right through the pumpkin and axle tubes.
Now 2, correction 5 very very nice and good condition camaro's are no longer part of this world in any way but recycled beer cans. Thanks
I bought mine to completely restore it. It will take me time but will be nice to say I still have my first car and its better than it was the day it was made.
Please people, take a driving course or crash course before you go out and drive these cars. I plan to take Mid-Ohio's courses all the way through, then to take myself to Beaverun in PA and do theirs. I want to completely learn everything about driving my car the right way and how to get out of any predicament that may come.
-Take care

Re: Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
Not too mention all the kids who have bought these cars and wrecked them... there are tons of threads on here about that. I start work at 2:30 today... and I am dreading another 10 hour shift with that guy... I need to bring ear plugs so I don't have to listen to his crap about '92 Camaro's and 305's lol. The only thing we agree on its that 16x8 91-92 Z rims are the only rims to have on them
Re: Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
If Camaros are such Junk and are terrible cars, why then did it take this idiot owning THREE of them before he figured it out, hmmmm????
He probably also thought he was getting the H.O. 305 engine in his RS! I have heard that one several times from people who just don't know what they are talking about. They try to tell me with a straight face that the 160 Horsepower and still stock 305 TBI that I am looking at in their RS is the 'high output version'! They also claim it is a real 'tire smoker' even though I know they have the 2.73 rear gears with the automatic in there.
Someone's a smoker allright!!

He also "had" a 2010 SS Camaro for a few weeks but lost his job and had to get rid of it. Apparently now the LS3 has 600 horsepower. I was really confused at first, I thought he had maybe some verion of the new Camaro that I hadn't heard of, until he told me it was a stock SS... or "Corvette V8" as he calls it... he's in his late 30's and has 3 kids, so I kind of believe some of the stuff he says but I think he's full of crap most of the time.
All of his 305's and his V6 were 5-speeds I guess.

Re: Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
I was talking to a guy who is very knowlegeable about 3rd gens. He sells all parts for 3rd gens (Thomas @ House of Camaro). He told me about the brake system not being ideal for the weight of the car and that that was one of the reasons people crash often. He can't keep front ends in stock they sell super fast. He is right, when I first got my 3rd gen I was getting on the freeway and slightly got on the throttle. As I was merging some fool gets in my lane so I stepped on the brakes and don't know how I did not slam into him. I hit the brakes but the car kept moving. That was my first Holly S..t moment in the Camaro. So yeah the brake systems are not the best for sports car. And that is one of the reasons why dont see too many. But that guy giving you a hard time, dont worry about him, some people talk crap just because they have a mouth. He drives a $50.00 Audi. $50.00? lol thats a tank of gas.

not completely true, under normal circumstances, with properly functioning brakes, you wont have issues. The issues with the smaller rotors is with repeated use in a short period of time, you can get brake fade. Any car will have problems stopping if the brakes dont work right.

Re: Why there are so little Thirdgens left...
A Camaro or Firebird, both being sports cars, do tend to need more attention then say a Camry or Accord. To be honest with you, I feel that all sports cars tend to be finicky if not treated right. Sort of like being on a date. Treat your date right, you get good results. Treat your date bad, you get left stranded on your behind.
Btw, I paid 11,000 for my car in 1993 and it was 6 years old with 63,000 some odd miles on it and it was not fully loaded. Fully loaded being the leather interior, power seat, mirrors and fog lights.

Tell him leave you alone. Has 3 kid's and a wife, therefor no camaro and a 50$ audi. Sounds like a bit of jelousy perhaps? Had a brand new camaro for a couple of weeks? They don't repo it until after you miss a minimum of 3 payments. Sounds like he's full of it, enjoy your new car.

Well, I find it kind of funny that he's had three different kids with three different women - yet he has had THREE Camaros!!!! Although, at least he has some consistency in his life.
I won't even think about going there with the tree-hugging comments - LOL.

yep my brakes suck so bad ive had many close calls over the summer. you brake and it just keeps rolling you have your foot all the way down and nothing just takes its sweet time so then what i did was swerve and nearly struck the car next to me, then to top it off it wanted to spin and it was sideways a lil and i countersteered and got it just on time hit the gas a lil and straightened out. it seemed like something out of a movie. but i play a lot of video games and watch a lot of car stuff on tv so i think that helped in my reaction seeing all the drifters and what not i felt like one that day but was scared
