5.0 liter h.o. dyno numbers
Idk if I'm posting in the right section, if not I'm sorry. I wanted to kno if anybody here dynoed a stock 5.0 liter h.o.? If so what were the numbers
Re: 5.0 liter h.o. dyno numbers
I dynoed mine 2004 or 2005 I don't remember for sure. But I think it is a bit of a freak. It put down between 168 and 171 horsepower and 210 to 215 torque over four pulls. Which would put it about 205-210 at the flywheel. I used to take it to the track in the early 90's it would run 14.7-14.9's at about 94mph. The only thing that was done to it at the time was the convertor went bad so I took it off and beat all the stuff out of the inside. It was rattling pretty bad. Other than that it was 100% original. I could not afford to do anything to the car back then. I always thought people underestimated the L69. Back in the day my car would run door to door with a friend's 92 LB9 auto.

I've always wondered about this too. I hear these engines were underrated in the hp dept. I'd love to see a low mileage stock L69 car on a dyno and see just what kind of numbers it produces.

Re: 5.0 liter h.o. dyno numbers
If you used a Dyno Jet then those numbers are actually right on track. I know a lot of people like to quote a 15% loss but that is not correct using a factory power rating. The factory ratings are more conservative than aftermarket ratings. When using factory flywheel ratings, a Dyno Jet shows about an 11% loss to the wheels. 190hp*.11=169hp.
If I remember correctly, GM said that the car would be rated at 200hp with 91 octane which equates to around 178hp at the wheels.
I have compared a LOT of different cars and the 11% rule is very accurate.

Re: 5.0 liter h.o. dyno numbers
The dyno we used was a Mustang dyno. Most Dyno Jets I have seen are pretty optimistic with thier readings. Hopefully soon I will get to retest it on a new Superflow Autodyn 30. We'll see how that goes. It's still stock, just more miles. Maybe it's loosened up and will make more power.

My '84 Trans Am with the L69 and auto transmission got these results at 101K miles with 87 octane gas:
170.1 RWHP @4217 RPM
232 FT.LB. @3390 RPM
Only mod was a Flowmaster catback.
