Im not sure if this has been talked about before, if so im sorry but i didnt find anything..

Anyways I have an 82 Recaro could someone pls tell me if the small hood bird is the same size as the sail birds, im getting mixed answers some say the hood bird was 4" and sail was 3"..Having said that if its the same size why does GM have the hood bird part# 10021692 and sail part# 10021690 which i got from Stencils and Stripes website..anyone know for sure??

The small hood bird is larger than the sail panel birds. From what I've heard all the repro decal places "think" they are the same but thats not the case.

I replaced mine several years ago when she got painted. They were the exact same size as the factory decals that came on her.

http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/transam/1982ta.htm
1982-84 12-inch Front of Hood Nosebird Only (Gold, Silver or Black)
The later cars use the same small Firebird decal as the sails.

Re: 1982 Trans Am Decal question

Alright guys..heres what i found out...this info might be useful.

i talked to David T. @ David Ts Auto Centre www.davidt.com

he has an all ORIGINAL 82 Recaro in his lot for sale wth pics which he was nice enough to measure the hood bird and sail bird for me...hes been in the business for 27+ years in camero and firebirds..what he told me is that the hood birds came in 3 different sizes a 3" version, a 5" version and 12" version..

So i asked david T to pls measure the hood bird and sail bird for me on that particular car and he did..heres what he gave me: Sail bird. side-to-side is approx 3" height is approx 3.5"...Hood bird on that car he has (see link) is Height approx 5" and side-to-side is approx 4.25". This is the car he used: http://www.davidt.com/vehicles/1/6/0/0/1335# i appreciate what he did for me.

So now i went back to Pheonix Graphix and talked to Nathan about it and he does carry what he called "under 6" hood bird which i got him to measure for me and it was almost exactly as david t measured..but pheonix graphix doesnt post this on their site..they do however post the 12" version...Nathan did later say that there were 3 options for the hood bird as well...BTW david and Nathan know one another too.

So i bought the under 6" hood bird from phoenix graphix for $23 in GOLD..Whoo hoo

Hopefully this info will benefit someone when they are wanting there car to look like how it was originally made.
