Never seen a TA like this one...

Between the color and options, this is one very unique TA...

http://www.bonhamchrysler.com/pictur...corralphone=no

Its funny because they don't seem to know how much they want for it. It was on eBay with a Buy it Now months ago for $9,995...its $11,995 in Hemmings, and $10,995 on their website

They also have this one here, which for $2k more is a much better deal, but it just doesn't excite me all that much...its much more ubiquitous, so to speak. I mean, who hasn't seen a bright red GTA at this point??

http://www.bonhamchrysler.com/pictur...corralphone=no

Just thought I'd share...I've done enough with 80s Trans Ams for 1 year, so I'm out I saw the yellow one before I bought my 88 in May, but wasn't about to drive or fly from MA to TX for it...

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

There prices are about 30% to 50% higher than real market value on most of their cars.

The 80 Z28 with 5k miles "bargain priced at $29,999". Plus they list the engine as a 302 not a 305.

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

Wow. That is one UGLY Trans Am. Unique or not, that color combo is hideous. Someone needs to throw away those louvers... If they were factory maybe they could stay, but they just look awful. Burn, burn, burn the Tweety bird floor mats! Have to say that the year kind of kills it too... If it were a different color, and a couple years newer it'd be a lot more attractive. 1985 tuned port cars never seem to run right. If I were in the market, I'd draw the line at 1988, with extreme preference toward 1989-later cars. For whatever reason the later cars just seem to work much much better.

The bright red GTA is a bit of a boring color, but it doesn't ram daggers into my eyes like ol' yeller. But for that kind of price you would think they could spend the $2 each to replace the missing lug nut caps.

I don't mind the color combo, but they should have ditched those Tweety bird mats the minute they traded on the car.

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

Personally, I like the yellow because, well, I like yellow, and its different. Everyone and their mother has a red or black TA (hell, even I have a red one)...that yellow is cool, in my opinion.

I agree the stupid tweety bird mats and louver have to go, but the rest of it is pretty damn cool to me. I think silver gfx would have gone better with yellow than charcoal, but I still like it. In terms of the later model TPIs running better than the earlier ones, I don't doubt it because GM always works bugs out in later years. However, I have to say that my 86 is the smoothest running of my 3, and the least likely to throw a SES light for no apparent reason

I think the price on the GTA is reasonable, but the yellow TA is worth about $9,500 tops, in my opinion.

Yellow TA, ugly but rare. Never knew they made a yellow one.

The red one on the other hand...Red, black "ET" seats and digital dash?......

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

I guess I like colors that stand out...which is funny, because if you look at my own garage, they made 84 million red TAs over the years, 30 million blue third gens, and like 4 grey IROCs, which is one of the most subtle colors you can get...

(No, those are not accurate numbers, in case you're a noob looking at this thread in 10 years...)....

I've always liked oranges, yellows, and other "rare" colors that never seem that popular when new. I had the chance to buy a yellow 86 IROC last year before I bought my blue TA. With 66k on it, 305 TPI and t-tops, it seemed like a good deal on the surface for $4,000...until I really looked closely at the crappy respray, "recovered theft" branded title, and black dye wearing off formerly grey interior panels. At that point, I guess you could say, color isn't quite so important!

The louvers look like they are the factory GM ones.

Yeah, I think the 91-92 Formulas can pull off yellow, but I never cared for it on any other thirdgen.

The red GTA, if it runs as straight as it looks and the documentation/real world condition checks out, I'd say that's a pretty good price for the car. 18k miles, 5.7, digital dash, red on black... it may be "boring" to some but I'd rather have red on black than yellow/gray/red pinstripe/gray dot matrix sticker.

Did anyone else check out their listings? They have some pretty awesome old, low-mileage cars. Not the typical collector cars, either... 75-90 big American sedans and coupes, cars that are either all rusted out or destroyed in car-chase movies.

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

I think the yellow TA looks great! Generally I love louvers on these cars, but it doesn't pull of the louver look at all. I would remove those, unless of course they are the factory ones, I can't quite tell. The mats, yeah, those are dumb and need out.

I wouldn't call the red GTA boring so much as common. It's a beautiful car, but everyone does seem to like their red cars. Hell, my Iroc is one of umpteen thousand red Irocs, it's true. But I like the red on black look, as common as it may be. The GTA does have the 5.7 and digital dash going for it, too. Those dashes can be problematic but they are cool as hell when they work.

My thoughts exactly. The red car is a boring color but it's in excellent condition and the damn thing is well optioned. For me the only thing the red car is really missing is T-Tops. The yellow car is unique but the color combination of grey and yellow, louvers, floor mats, and wheels kill it for me. I've never liked those particular wheels. Though the last part isn't a deal breaker.

I agree, they have a helluva cool selection of cars, and I wish I lived somewhere near there...I'd go visit them

I'm not surprised by the lack of love for the yellow car. As has been said on here before, GTAs are by far the preferred model today, and even though they were outnumbered by TAs back in the day, they seem to far outnumber TAs today. They definitely are more contemporary looking, for sure...

I guess for me, nothing says "80s" like a mid-'80s Trans Am. I am obviously biased, as now that my 86 is re-done, I think its the nicest looking of the 3 I own, despite the fact its the most gaudy. Its funny how growing up, I cared about IROCs way more than TAs, but now I like them both equally.

I would take that yellow car, ditch the mats and louver, get grey 86-specific crosslace 16s, tint the windows, and cruise that sucker The GTA is beautiful in its own right, for sure, and I think $13k is a very fair number for a dealer to ask.

No, they really don't. The factory louvers were aluminum, the ones on the T/A in question are aftermarket ABS garbage. You can tell by the edges, and the mounting hardware.

Most of the thirdgen yellows were that pale, sickly, pukey shade of urine yellow, that faded the second it was exposed to UV. The 91-92 Firebird yellow was darker and looks better. That said the yellow would still be acceptable, if not for the charcoal gfx. Silver or gold looks right, charcoal looks like a 15 year old tricking out his Cavalier by painting the gfx a different color. It's accurate but it looks stupid, and the colors aren't complimentary.

Re: Never seen a TA like this one...

I will agree that this particular yellow ain't the best yellow. A brighter yellow would've been more attractive, for sure. When I was ordering Firebirds for the Pontiac dealer in '02, I avoided the Collector Edition cars because I hated that pale yellow they used on them. This one, admittedly, is pretty similar...

yellow is one of those colors you hate until you own one. I was never a fan of yellow cars, yet i ended up with a 92 yellow firebird and really like the color now.

Of course there are a lot of different shades of yellow and some of them are still ugly
