Am I reading the tech data correctly?
I have an 88 2.8l. According to the tech data on Camaros here on TGO, there were only a little over 7000 of those made. Also, I have the special wing they only used the first half of the year. Along with the Z-28 styling with Camaro badges that they only did in 88. So I'm taking that as I have a car that's 1 of some 3500 made? Ever? Is this right? So it's a fairly rare car, in availability, not necessarily worth?

Every car is rare, according to some narrowly-defined criteria.

I understand that, but when your looking at production years with thousands of cars made, having one that was limited availability is a good thing right? In 88 only about 3500 of my certain car where made, and 24 years later the number of them still on the road has to be pretty small I'm guessing. Just wondering if my train of thought is sound.

A good thing in what sense? In 1982 there were less than 1000 LQ8s made (carbureted L4 for export, I had one). There were over 6000 Z28 Indy pace car replicas made the same year. Which one is "better" to have, and what effect does rarity have on that?

Rare? Somewhat.
Desirable/Valuable? Not on a base model with a V6.

Rare doesn't necessarily mean desirable. Anything is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it in the end.
Based on the '88 data, what you have certainly seems to be unique for that model year (7% of production) but the market doesn't really give a lot of consideration to V6 Camaros, rare or otherwise.

Yeah, I knew monetarily it wasn't much.... But having something rare today is kind of a nice thought for me. I don't plan on selling it anyway, gonna give it to my son assuming gas engines are still used by that time

It's strange, of all the third gens I see where I'm at, almost all of them are 88 sport coupes with firebird looking wing
Re: Am I reading the tech data correctly?
Back when Compnine was around, it would break almost every car down to a 1 of 1. If you push it, with the number of options combinations available, most of these cars are one of a few hundred, or less. It is meaningless as the numbers game only applies to desirable options and combinations.
