What's a DX3 car? And is that original paint on that Iroc? I feel like it needs stripes, but it's definitely gorgeous. I'm jealous of your yellow one, that's one of my favorite IROC colors

Hell of a nice 89 Iroc you got there!!! I purchased a 89 Iroc 5.0 tpi 5 speed from the original owner in 2006, 74,000 OE miles and That thing was a head turner!!! Until one crazy day i took her out to detail her nice and little that i know that same night was gonna drive my sexy car to its maiden voyage of death lol Some punk kid blows the red, clipps my car and sent me in a spin to her death. That car had everything:305(Big Cam), oil cooler KC4, 3.45 9 bolt, PBR 11.5 inch rear disks, MK6 T5, FE2 suspension, wonder bar, dual fans, Dual cats, and power everything!!! 89 was the only year you can get the mighty 9 bolt with PBR's, Take care of that thing man!!!!!
How much did you pay for it out the door when it was new?

Seeing your white and yellow ones in the background reminds me of when I had the blue and red TAs parked outside together. More people asked me "you've got two of the same car?" I would always say "well, sorta...same but different." They would normally look at me like I was crazy

Curious chazman, any reason for not splurging for the T-tops since it's a 305 car?
I too will have an epoxy floor garage someday...

I had absolutely no interest in ordering T-tops. They weren't worth the weight and reduced rigidity hit to me. Plus, you couldn't order the G92 performance package with anything other than a hard top.

It sucks but what ever was salvagable from the Iroc was transplanted into my Rally sport. 89 was sweet because the Maf setup was way more reasponsive then the map setup.

Thats intresting. So is 1988 the last year that you could order an LB9 car with the G92 option with T-Tops or in a convertible?

Chazman here are some pics of the 89 RS which has 113k on the body. The engine and transmission are from the 89 iroc, the 9 bolt was unsalvagable due to the accident. I was able to snag the hood and deluxe interior though. She is not a show car but my daily driver

In '89 the G92 option became a more comprehensive performance package for 5.7/A4 and LB9/M5 hardtops. Previously G92 was simply a performance axle ratio.

Ahh I see. Thats intresting. I just thought in '89 you still could get an IROC with the L98/G92 combination and T-Tops.
Is this also true? The IROC's and Z28's from '90-'92 were only available in hardtop form with the L98 and LB9/G92/5-speed combinations?

All of your cars are very nice! I wish I someday that I would be able to find a mint condition IROC like your '89.
Could you post a video of your driving your '89? That would be really cool to see and hear a stock, mint condition car like yours that has all of the factory performance options.

Beautiful car and impressively well kept. GM paint is not the greatest but to see a black car that flawless is impressive. You must not drive and enjoy it as much as you should! Hit the road!
I am jealous of how flush your nose piece fits. I've seen them run the range from perfectly flush to having big gaps. Of course, as the plastic ages, all bets are off... mine's starting to show some gaps.
Winner. Chaz's car is my favorite on the board (well, after mine of course
). He optioned it just right... all the performance goods, T5, no IROC graphics, no T-Tops... only point of debate is 1LE, but how much does AC mean to you? Down in FL I'd pass. If I lived up north I'd consider it...

I would have taken it to ThirdGenFest last year, but it was raining. My goal every year is to simply run through last year's tankful of gas.

Chazman,
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...ar-camaro.html
I was looking at this other thread and wanted to see what you thought. It's about the fastest 100% stock 3rd gen Camaro that you could buy.
With your '89 IROC you have a good example of the highest performance LB9 combination that was offered with the factory go fast parts.
Have you raced other cars that would be simular in performance compaired to your car?
How does your car fare against an L98/700r4/G92 combination?
How does your '85 IROC compair to your '89 IROC in terms of performance?

I had a friend who used to have a '91 B4C, with all the 1LE stuff. This car was the fastest stock 3rd gen I've ever been in. He took it to the track once, and all the 4th gen guys were snickering as this "RS" was pulling into the staging lane. They were expecting a 17 second quarter mile. When the board flashed "13.6", no one was laughing - except of course my friend.

Hey Chazman--I notice your black car has D3's on it. Do you like them? How would you compare them to, say a Goodyear GS-C? Thanks!!

I like them fine. As you know, we don't have a whole bunch of choices in 245/50/16. I haven't driven on a GS-C in a long time, but I'd say the F1's are better. Honestly, I wish they still made Gatorbacks for our cars, because I would have bought a set..

Re: Took some pics of the '89 IROC-Z today......
Thats cool that you got to drive all of those cars. Ha ha yeah a lot of 4th gen guys laugh at a TPI powered car still. Driven correctly with the right modifications these cars still can run with them. 3rd gens are also the best handling Camaros that were may in my opinion.
I've driven every performance 3rd gen combo, (besides a TTA), when new. A really good running, N10, L98, G92 would probably be about even or maybe a tenth or two faster than my '89. Close enough to be a driver's race. But sometimes you do run across a factory freak.

He can post all the videos you'd like. There is no experience like riding in it. It's the baddest sounding 3rd gen Ive ever been in period. The pictures dont do it any justice. Every cruise night he goes to someone always winds up asking him who did the paint on the car when he answers the factory and 23 years of polishing the look on some peoples faces is priceless LOL.
