I don't mind the wide-body aspect of it, but damn, you're right about going blind! haha Title status is rebuilt, means it was totaled and fixed. Looks like something out of a bad 80's sci-fi movie.

Re: Tojan found on Craigslist
I feel the exact same way about these "things". I love the print there too, "They added power steering to help it handle like it was on rails" Wait they added power steering to a car that had power steering? So much marketing BS in that write up. And the way the car looks is just....... I cant even begin to....... :bleh:
I only posted it here because, like it or not, they are technically part of the 3rd gen history and they arent exactly that common.

Re: Tojan found on Craigslist
I wish one of the car restoration shows would buy this car and restore it back to what it was. This car has been offered for sale for over 6 months. I've seen it on craigs list and Ebay. I don't think anybody else likes it either. It might look good at the end of a pole for a Drive In.

It's one of those that I love but don't..........I've only ever seen one in the UK and apparently it's the only one over here!

It is definitely one of those cars, love it, hate it... Being a convertible, it is rare on its own, being a convertible Togan makes it even more rare, I know of 3 1987 Togan convertibles...
AFAIK they never made any performance enhancements to the engine, might have done some suspension stuff... Compete with a Ferrari... maybe a Ferrari Dino.

Either the dude is completely lying or marketing gimmick.. They were made to "look" like Italian cars (bad attempt) but not "perform" like them. If they were.. why wouldn't they go Turbo route or at least the TPI 350 and not 305 lol? I then love how he says they compete toe to toe with Ferrari...

Re: Tojan found on Craigslist
Although I would love to own a Ferrari... I would rather a Togan... You ask WHY?!? Pure and simple, have you ever looked at the maintenance schedule for a Ferrari? A Ferrari is not a street car, maybe the new ones, but the old ones were a labor of... well... labor, and more labor, adjust the cams, adjust this, that & the other thing, More of a Prestige thing or a work of art, than a car... (I think the new ones are much much better than the 80's)
Ok, I would rather a Tojan that looked like a 1987 Formula... There that would be a perfect world...

Re: Tojan found on Craigslist
The sad truth is if GM had been able to put in motor's and tranny's like they do now, it would have challenged Ferrari. Smog and MPG standards kept HP down to 160 to 300 on these cars. The WS6 and Iroc suspensions were great. All that was needed was a 350 - 500 HP motor to make them world class. Many have made the change on their own. When my 5.0L dies, I will replace it with an LS motor and matching tranny.

I have magazine articles that have IROCs and Trans Am's pulling .92G or .94G... That is still very good today.

I couldn't have said it better. They are one of the last production cars you can modify with about anything. Open the hood on most new cars and you can't even squeeze your fingers around the sides. Options are for that car only and don't fit anything else. They handle the road like they are glued to it when they are correctly set up.
