How rare are G92 Formulas, if at all?
I found a tpi 305 5speed, it is red, and it is a friend of mine's...

From: Doghouse ······································ Car: 1989 Formula 350 Vert Engine: 350 L98 Transmission: 700R4 Axle/Gears: B&W 3.27
Car: 87 Formula T-Top, 87 Formula HT
Engine: 5.1L TPI, 5.0L TPI
Transmission: 700R4, M5
Axle/Gears: Sag 3.73, B&W 3.45
The G92 indicates a Performace rear axel ratio.
To me I really do not know the significance to the G92 option. It appears to have to come about in 1989 & stayed thru 1992. What I find interesting, is I have a 1987 with the 3.42 Gear, with the Borg & Warner axel, 4 wheel disks, T-tops, and a 5 speed, but no G92. Probably because its an 87.

As far as rarity, I really don't know. I am just wondering what the option really is. Since there was no new axel ratios introduced in 89...

I know Thats not the answer your looking for, but it might help...

According to my window sticker, it is more than just axle ratio...

Well my car is a 305/5Speed, 3.42 posi, dual converters, etc. Yet no G92. I do have R6P which is basically the same thing though.

If Frankie sees this he can explain it better.

G92

My 89 formula was a g92 car-had a 3.27(9 bolt) ratio in it--also dual convertors, 4wd, and tpi 350.

G92 is one of these RPO's that has multiple meanings.

G92 : AXLE REAR RATIO, PERFORMANCE is the basic bare minimum of what G92 entails... Ie better gears. Thats it.

The RPO code was around as early as 86 in the Camaro, probably earlier. Right off the top of my head I don't know when it was used in the Firebirds. I can also tell you that every L98 car from 90-92 Firebird or Camaro has dual cats, oil cooler, supposed to have rear discs, etc which in those years was all included in G92, yet the Camaro alone received the G92 RPO code. Firebirds got code R6P which was a performance enhancement group.

So what does G92 mean for each year? I don't know, I don't have factory documentation for any other years then 87, and 91. I'd suggest if you really want to know get a factory sales brochure for the camaro, and firebird for each year and then read them. Usually it explains the options on the last few pages.

Regardless, having one unusual RPO code or a messed up combination of RPO codes is going to have little if any impact on the cars value.

So far after looking at the 89 Specification sheets, the G92 included...4wheel discs, engine oil cooler, 3.45 performance ratio for the 5 speed and 3.27 ratio for autos. According to this document, all 350's got the 2.77 gears, and g92 upgraded it to 3.27, and the LB9 came with 3.08 and G92 upgraded it to 3.45.

It later states that the option cost $177 and required posi (G80), air (C60), 4wd (J65), oil cooler (KC4) and LB9 w/ manual or B2L (350).

It also states that all 350's came with the dual exhaust option in '89, and the G92 included dual exhaust on the LB9 cars.

It also states that ordering the car with G92 and air made it a street vehicle, with G92 and no air, forced the 1LE option.

Only 1426 G92 IROCs were ordered in 89.

Hopes this helps a little.
