Too much claybar.....sorry someone was gonna say it.

It's a long story, but started when another IROC-Z with very low miles went to auction. After it sold, someone from a Facebook group took photos that showed areas that "appeared" to have been repainted. The owner of the car said that what looked like paint and clear coat on areas that shouldn't have it, was clay bar residue. Then it became compound, then it was a totally different car, then it was camera trickery, then it was just camera flash image, etc. Originally Posted by jbomd

Scott - could you please point out where you think this car has been repainted? This car is owned by a friend of mine and he bought it as an investment. It's a legitimate car purchased from another collector. The owner keeps it in a climate controlled warehouse with his collection and it's a gorgeous car.
Thanks
Joe

I’m quite sure Scott is not referring to your friends car. It was an auction car this past Winter that he’s referring to.Originally Posted by jbomd

The car that the "clay bar residue" joke is about, is the car Scott is referring to. It is joked about all over thirdgen.org. It has nothing to do with the car above.
There were tons of up close pics of the OTHER car, but they are all gone

Sorry to the op, I was joking as others pointed out about a totally different car. Didn't mean any harm.
Joe, which car are you referring to being owned by your friend? This convertible, or the one sold at auction earlier this year?

Joe, as has been mentioned that does not refer to your friend's car. I noticed he has three beautiful low milers up for sale on eBay. Tell him good luck with the sales.Originally Posted by jbomd

Other quotes you may see are, "It's about to get real", "That's photo flash trickery", and "You will be unmasked".

I remember seeing this car for years on eBay... It always looked really nice, but the price has always been significantly higher than what you see thirdgens going for. Most people want one with a few miles so they aren’t so scared to drive it to cruises and shows at least. Even 10k, 20k, 30k Miles you can get a car that looks like that for half the money. This needs to find a specific buyer... I think I remember the Buy It Now being at $36k years ago..
I wonder how this car would do at Barrett Jackson? I think it would do well, but I don’t think it would break into the $40s...

I agree. Probably wouldnt break into the 30s. I have been wrong on these prices lately though, they have seemed to go through the roof unfortunately. I love Thirdgens but I wont pay through the nose for one, my next ride will probably be a C4 as the price is right on those at the moment.

C4s are going below book values and so fun to drive.. people can’t sell them... especially with all the people unloading low mile C6s, C7s and Z06s taking huge hits on the sticker prices they paid to try to buy ZR1s and awaiting the new C8..Originally Posted by dmccain

Its crazy to me that C4s are cheaper than thirdgens.. My vette and IROC are in similar condition with similar miles, but the Vette feels like a nicer, tighter, more expensive car... It locks and unlocks when you approach or leave the car, you get fuel economy readings, gas gauge is real time adaptive to your gas mileage/driving, tire pressure warnings, superior heat and a/c controls with auto adjusting, turn signal on warning, radio stays on until you open the driver door, seats are super comfortable and have three adjustable lumbars w/ power seats, heated mirrors, right and left turn spotlights when the directionals come on... Its like driving my Tahoe LTZ minus the infotainment/GPS...
Meanwhile the IROC could probably sell for double the Vette...
Newer Camaros don’t seem to affect Thirdgen prices.. Thirdgens are their own thing..

I know I'm raising the dead with this post.....BUT, I really wonder what this car would bring at auction today? I wonder if it still has the same owner??
