Orig SLP package on Formula 350???
I was going through my owners manual today, and to my surprise, tucked way back inside, was the keynote SLP radiator sticker! This is the silver/black sticker that discusses the GM/SLP performance package. The sticker was never put on the car, no holes have been punched out of it, and unfortuanetly, I do not have any original documentation of the purchase of the package. Was this package available to 1991 formula 350 cars? I wonder if I just somehow have the sticker or if my car was originally an SLP packaged car. I do have many SLP parts, but not sure if they were put on by dealor or a previous owner. Any input appreciated!

Firehawk...it's probably not one because it would have badges, rear battery, etc. right? Was the firehawk the only package avilable from SLP? I was under the impression that SLP modified firebirds as a dealor option that werent necessarily deemed "firehawks".
I know someone here knows..lots of history buffs here! The main reason I brought this up is because I found this sticker in my owners manual. It says: NOTICE This vehicle is equiped with a general motors service parts operation approved performance package. Serice/Replacement parts can be obtained from slp engineering. phone 201-240-3696. (then it has a list with perferated holes that arent punched out) Air indution system Intake manifold runners, exhaust header system, exhaust pipe system, ecm calibrator. Punch out indicates system installed. 12338955. I'd love to get some input. I'm searching searching searching the arhives! Thanks!

The SLP package was an option that was available on V8 TPI equipped Firebirds, and was available from 1991-1992. The package consisted of SLP Tri-Y exhaust headers, Siamesed intake runners, Cold Air Box, and a new PROM to make all the new modifications work together properly. The package was really effective, and it dropped a test GTA's 0-60 time from 7.1 seconds to 5.5 seconds. The parts were available through GM's performance parts catalogue and could be dealer installed if the owner wanted to. Three of the four parts are still readily available today, namely the intake runners, the headers, and the cold air kit, however, I haven't seen a PROM chip for the 350 available on SLP's site. I've been trying get a hold of all the parts myself and install them on my '91 GTA, but the chip's about the only thing I haven't found yet.

BTW
The dealer installed SLP Firebirds are pretty rare I would imagine. Those that would have had them installed by the dealer would have the SLP sticker on the radiator cover indicating which parts were installed. I imagine that the dealer that installed the parts on your car probably just didn't get around to placing the sticker on there.

Dear ***.
B4U = Firehawk package.
The SLP parts package wasn't assigned an RPO code since it was a dealer installed item. Any of the parts could be chosen or deleted to the buyers preference.
I would say that the SLP parts won't mean much in the long run, since anyone could add them... its the same as any backyard mechanic modifications. Ultimately the car was ordered, optioned, and built like any other car, once it arrived at the dealer the owner could drop some more cash and have it modified.
I wonder about the performance impact, really. It's not unheard of for magazines to receive a hand built car.
Also wasn't the two on the left catback, and the spark plug wire looms included in the kit?

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. Crazy Firebirds. This is actually the 1st time I've heard of SLP being involved with Third Gens besides the Firehawk, and thats suprising. They never did anything with the Camaro right??

I'm now under the impression that the package itself may be rare, but it isnt that big of deal since it can be done by anyone today and since nobody kept vin records of the modified cars. Should I keep the sticker or should I let it go to someone who positively has an SLP modified car? I have had an offer of $25 which seems reasonable to me.

If it were me, and it doesn't have a copywrite on it, I'd scan it into the computer and sell replica cards for somewhere between $25-50 each... I'd keep the original in a file with the rest of the records of the car.
FWIW my file folder for my 91 Formula is about 2" thick right now, has all the receipts for every part I have replaced, time slips from drag racing, the SPID, the dealership paperwork, the title, the insurance records, etc... Its just my way of documenting my car for my records.

Drew, the card is numbered. I'm not sure if this is actually a copyright or if it was just the same on every sticker. Hmm. On a further note, the sticker could be reproduced I'm sure...but it would be difficult maybe since it's got a chrome finish. Yes, I have all records on my car also...every receipt since its birth. EXCEPT any documentation that says SLP. The only receipt I have from SLP are the headers, which were not factory installed. Of course, the SLP kit could be ordered without headers, so that doesnt rule out my car as being an SLP car. Sorry for the rambling.

The number on the bottom is a part number, my sticker has the exact same number.
My cars original dealer order invoice shows the purchase of the package on it showing that it was ordered with my car and financed in with the full purchase amount. I even have the purchase agreement and loan papers for my car. The headers have been discontinued for years now and the PROMs were in very limited number and from what I was told by SLP never available outside the package, they said the PROM that came with the package had different programing than the other PROMs they sold. I had to have my replacement PROM custom burned using specs furnished by SLP. The intake runners, exhaust system, and cold air kit are still available on the SLP web site.

That is some great info...you're very fortunate to have all of that documentation! What is the difference in the headers that SLP sells now vs what the original SLP cars got back in 1991-1992? Thanks for your help.

The headers used as part of the kit were the old "Tri-Y" design headers, very different from the current one's.
I have Dyno results right out of the GM Performance Parts Catalog for this kit too if you are interested
Here they are compliments of the person I am buying my set of Tri-Y's from in about 2 weeks:
Sorry dial-up guys
