History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
I just picked up a 87 Iroc that I will be mostly restoring.
I got the original dealer invoice for this car and it list it as the 1SB rpo option. Iroc pkg 2
The rpo badge in glove box says it's a 1SA Iroc pkg 1
I considered that but on which end. Console sticker or dealer invoice? Car does have the 1sb options. Figured it would be less likely for the console sticker to be a typo

Re: 87 Iroc rpo?
Well the VIN matches between the Factory Invoice and the SPID label so it's not a case of the wrong SPID label installed in the car or console swapped somewhere in the car's lifetime.
I'd hazard a guess and say the typo is on the SPID label.
When you say original dealer invoice, is it a piece of paper printed back then, or in modern times as a reproduction?
I have found a number of cars where the RPOs from a EPC does not match the sticker. Usually it is some missing, but I have seen one or two that don’t match.
I wonder if the records from back then were on paper, then OCR’d into digital at some point. And letters mixed up. I have tried to get software to OCR SPIDs, but doing it with any level of precision is beyond me, and likely current tech.

It's possible. What I have is from GM archives. Could have been paper , carbon or micro film? Doesn't really matter in the end. But was trying to figure out what the car was suppose to have or not have. It has the 1sb options
I thought they were on microfiche. In fact PHS had the standard phrase that what you received (invoice copy) is the best image possible due to age and being from micro film.

The 1SA may have been on all SPID sheets, and the individual RPOs listed separately. 1987 Camaros have some strange things going on with RPO codes, packages and such even within the old Camaro White book.
The only thing I can think of is your car is one of the 1st 1000 cars built in Van Nuys in 1987. The '87 model was the first year for option packages, so it's possible the car was built as a base unit with 1SA and then the options added. Every SPID label I have for 1987 has 1SA, 1SB or 1SC listed, but none of the VINs are as early as yours. GM had difficulty with option counts. Was the option available as a single item? Was the option part of a package? If yes to both, how was the item counted?
Think of the auto dimming mirror. It was available as a single option, but was also part of 1SC. If you look at the count totals for the number of those mirrors produced, they only counted the individual option count and not the package quantity. So, 1987 is all messed up and maybe the early cars got coded one way and fixed later after they figured some things out.
