WTB - 1991 Steering Column - Theft Attempt

So some $@(%ers decided to try to steal my 1991 Z28 Convertible on the weekend. Luckily they were spotted and they ran for it, unfortunately they smashed up interior pretty good (once immaculate - including the dash pad). Complete amateurs as it looks like they just took a hammer to everything.

Thankfully it appears the passkey system worked! Car is at the shop and the mechanic still cant get it going.

I am now in the process of locating interior parts. My biggest problem at the moment is finding a steering column. I understand the 91-92 will be my best bet as they have the VATS and airbag wiring.

Please let me know asap if anyone knows of one. Located in Burlington, Ontario (Canada)

Thanks,
Mike

Damn, that sucks! Sorry to hear of it. I don't have parts, but maybe post up on the Facebook group Southern Ontario IROC-Z Owners Club https://www.facebook.com/groups/9628...f=group_header

Good luck.

I have a column in my 1991 RS parts car....with an ignition key. It's in great cosmetic shape, but I'm sure shipping will be spendy.....

If you pull down on the steering wheel, it will move some, happens when people pull on it to get out of the car. I know they can be tightened up, but wanted to disclose that

Re: WTB - 1991 Steering Column - Theft Attempt

Man.. sorry to hear about your car. I had the same thing happened to me many years ago in New Orleans. Somebody used a baseball bat on my t-top to break into my 92 T/A. They busted up my steering column and interior real good but just like you they could not take the car because of the passkey anti-theft system. Luckily for me a steering column was still available through GM when all this happened. As a matter of fact my neighbor had a 91 Z28 that he stripped to make a full cage race car. I can check with him and see if he maybe still has the whole column laying around and get back with you. I'm sure he would be willing to sell?

With a column even if the key is included you would want the matching passkey module.
Or have the ignition relayed to your original key.

Re: WTB - 1991 Steering Column - Theft Attempt

Sorry about the theft attempt.
When I was younger, I thought about wiring a timer circuit to an M-80 located in the driver's seat. Break in, 30 sec later, BOOM, bad day for them.
Unfortunately, nowadays they would sue me for getting hurt while breaking in to MY CAR!

Yep, I still have it. I had someone else that wanted it, but I haven't had time to take it out of the car yet. I have to see if the other guy still wants it, otherwise I will sell it to you. I was hoping to get it taken out this weekend. The car is over an hour away from where I live, so it's not exactly convenient lol
