Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

Long shot but figured I’d try.
Looking for this style back seat just need the back rest part. Mine is all torn up at the top and looks terrible through the rear window. Dont want to spend the $500 on the upholstery set right now. Located in Western PA.

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

Just a fun bit of relevant trivia... There are two different version of that style upholstery. The difference is the number of pleats. The style in the photo has 6 pleats, the other has 8. It's a minor difference that a person doesn't notice until both styles are sitting side by side.

Never in my life would I have thought that they made different ones with that small a difference. I guess I wouldve noticed if I found the wrong one and the bucket pleats didnt match the back...would have been real mad. Thanks for the info!

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

Gary,......

I came across a 91 Firebird a couple weeks ago in a yard about 25 miles from me. Visited the yard and bought all kinds of stuff from it,... but didn't take the seats. The interior was grey & I remember the fronts were kinda' beat but didn't really check on the back seats because I've got no where left to store them so I just looked right past them and focused on the parts I knew I wanted. I expect that car to be gone in another week or 2; cars only last about 1 month - at best - in that yard because they have a very high turnover and need the space for new cars arriving.

What is the rear seat backrest worth to you ??

I would not pull the back seats from the car unless i have a firm commitment that you will buy it; & I would ONLY consider pulling it from the car if it is in real good condition. I'm GUESSING it will be $40-$50 + shipping.

I first read your add a couple days ago and wasn't going to respond,.. but you haven't gotten any other leads yet & these cars are getting harder and harder to find. I know that it can be a real bitch to find an exact match when it comes to seats - particularly seats in good shape - so I figured I'd pass along this info to you to find out if you wanted me to check into it further.

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

John,

Thank you very much for the offer, I really appreciate it. I feel like by the time it was all said and done it would be more trouble than its worth. Sending you out to even see if its good, it being the right one, shipping it and everything...just too much work for you. I’ll just keep an eye out around my area and see if I can find a cheap one. Maybe I’ll try my hand at a bit of patch work just to get buy till I finally decide to spring on buying new covers. Again, thank you for the offer!

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

I totally get it ----> BUT,........

I've been wrenching on my kids truck all weekend and found out today that his front spindles/hubs are bad. I've also had a request form a "local" guy to source some of the parts from that red 91 Firebird. ( Doors, Fenders, SW, etc... ) Since I've GOT to get to the junkyard tomorrow and will be at that car anyway,........ I'll take a few pics and get a price for that seat while I'm there. If the rear seat backrest is crap I wont bother,..... but if it's decent than I'll post and update here.

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

Sorry,...... No Good.

The price was right,...... but the fabric was ripping/splitting along the top edge. I'll let you know if I come across anything better !

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

To be honest, at this point, with that being the common spot for the back to split, the chances of finding a good rear without splits, that is the exact right style are getting pretty slim.

I picked up a rear upper from an 89 for my 91 project a couple years ago. Wasn't until recently, I was moving the seats from one storage spot to another, that I noticed the different styles. Over 20 years with thirdgens Firebirds, still get caught off guard. I figured with four lower cushions and a good upper, I could pick the best pieces and make one complete rear set, but seeing as how the 89 and 91 seats are different... Well, so much for that.

Seems like that's par for the course with thirdgen upholstery, it's never been easy to find another set of exactly the right seats. They're all equally damaged, worn out, or not a match.

Re: Late 90’s Firebird rear seat

Drew, thats true. I’ll keep an eye out locally still but the price would have to be good. Otherwise I’ll just wait till I decide to spring on an entire upholstery set.
