Removing Oil From Carpet
Yeah, so I left about half a quart of motor oil on the floorboard behind the pass. seat and I swear the lid was on tight...not tight enough I guess. Anyone know of a way to get most of that oil outta the carpet?

You will have to take your carpet out. The oil soaked through and will show up again even after you clean it on the surface. after you take the carpet completely out, take it to one of those quarter car washes and soap it up and wash it. throw it over a fence to dry. The sound deadening material will most likely need to be cut out and a new piece in. Just a few hours of work, but atleast the carpet will be very clean.

Check to see if the oil has actually soaked through. If not, mop it up. Scrub with soap and water, then fresh, clean water. Repeat as needed. A product called Spot Shot may help (Wal-Mart). Dry completely, as nelapse, suggests. Sun and fan go along way.

Half a quart of oil is alot of oil. If that oil did not soak through then you need to buy a lottery ticket. It really isn't a big deal when taking out your carpet. Think of it as a good opportunity to check for other problems.

Yup i never trust any type of fluids for automobiles. Opened or Un-opened...they have leaked for me. I always keep them upright or in something that they will spill in first before my carpet. Sorry to hear. I rag on my gf about it all the time with like drinks/milk and stuff. Ive seen anything leak...

Alright, thanks guys. The oil isn't visible at all on the carpet, but I just wanna get most of it up. Guess I'll go out there and use a little more elbow grease.
