I put one on my 88 GTA, was easy, just make sure you let it lay flat for about a day to get the wrinkles out of the material ( mine was shipped folded in half ) after that take a real sharp knife and open up the holes for the dome light and the seat belts ( i got creative and got me a can of spary adheasive and by making X cuts folded over the extra material and gluded it down , instead of just cutting out the holes )

Mine has been in the car now for about 4 Months and I love it, no sagging and is nice and firm, A nice replacment for the Cardboard style. TTops leak. headliner stays up

Hi,

I have an 87 T/A and just replaced my headliner with the ABS headliner. I love it. I did just like 91greenbean3.1 and used spray glue and an "x" cut in the material that covers the dome lite hole and glued back the extra material. I also had to cut holes in it for the dome console. I used my old headliner as a template for the extra holes. I measured and marked and then measured again before I cut. I also used the spray glue to glue back the extra material for those holes too.

Make sure your sun visor holes line up before you cut the material in those cut-outs. Mine were a little off and I had to drill new holes for the sun visor screws or I would have a gap between the material and the sun visor bracket.

If you have any more questions, I would me happy to answer. Good luck....jster1963

Thanks for the tips, I also have the console that will need to be cut out, did you take the console out to put up the headliner? I didnt look at that close enough yet to see whats involved in that area of the headliner.

Yes. The dome console has to come out to take the old headliner out, and put the new one in. It is easy to do.

Take off the dome light cover. There are 2 screws under it that hold the console to the roof. Now slide the entire console forward. It will now come off. There is a electrical connection that has to be disconnected, and the console is off.

You now take off the sunvisor supports, and the front of the headliner can be taken off. Mine had 2 clips between the sunvisor and the console. The new headliner did not have those 2 clips.

In the rear, you take off the sail panels and seat belt trim, and you are ready to go. I hope it goes well. Any more questions, let me know.....jster1963

question

so whats the difference between this headliner and the original type? Does this one replace the crap behind the headliner too? I mean does this replace the whole interior ceiling?

The "headliner" is the entire piece that installs below the sheet metal roof. I'm not sure what "crap behind the headliner" that you're referring to.

The stock headliner has the foam-backed fabric material wrapped around the molded fiberglass piece, and the whole unit installs as 1. The new one is the same, except that the foam-backed fabric is wrapped around ABS plastic instead of that fiberglass material. Installation and removal is basically the same as stock, except that the stock headliner has 3 push-in tabs that hold it close to the windshield. The new ABS-backed headliners don't have this, but it isn't really necessary. Some people have found that it doesn't stay tightly against the roof at that area, but that's easily fixed with some double-backed tape or some adhesive velcro strips.
