next mod to the iroc started!

well i picked up a set of racing seats from a friend the other day. im going to put em in my camaro. the only problem is they are bright *** blue and black.... so i picked up some dye stuff and it has worked really well. i know people say that it fades after a couple years but that is going to happen to anything, and they say it will rub off on your clothes but i rubbed it a couple times after i did it and it didnt rub off. but just in case it does i picked up some fabric sealer and im going to put that on after i finish these up.

this is how they looked b4 i dyed the passenger side seat

this is after i died it with just one light coat. im going to do two but if it needs more maybe three coats per seat.

lmk what you think. i know your probably thinking *****, but once i get them all black i think they will look good but if not or if i dont like how they feel sitting in them i will just sell them. i have practically no money in them.

ill keep you guys updated on the proccess

Looks like you might need another coat of the dye stuff, as you can still kind of see the blue through it. I myself am not a big fan of racing seats, but it's lookin' good so far!

thanks man ya i know i planned on putting two to three coats on. also realize that this is in the bright *** sun so in the shade or in the car it isnt going to be as noticable. but i am putting another coat on. this stuff is really good stuff though i recommend it to anyone if they are looking to change the color of their fabric, if these seats werent like florescent blue it would have been worlds easier to hide the past color. the stuff i used was duplicolor fabric dye. it took me one can per seat to get two light coats on each seat. i bought three cans so im going to put the second coat on really thick. we'll see how it comes out ill keep you guys posted.

I put in two APC racing seats in June. Instead of modifying the brackets that come with the racing seat, i modified the camaro brackets. I took two pieces of .25 inch steel bar and bolted them to the camaro brackets, then bolted the steel bars to the seat. never had a problem with em. Give me a day, and ill post pics if u want em.

The reason I didn't modify the racing seats bracket is because it would sit too low, and it would be more work to get them to mount in. If i remember correctly, my seat brackets were 2 inches inward from the threads in the floor.

Are you using the spray-on fabric paint?
If so, its very uncomfortable, the paint hardens and it feels like your sitting on pastic.
May have just been the kind I personally used,
but yours look fantastic!

heres what i did:

i took 2 really thick pieces of metal and drilled holes on each end of the metal so that i could mount the pieces directly to the new seat. then i drilled two more holes the width of the stock seat brackets inward from the ends so that i could mount the stock seat brackets to the metal piece. it worked great and it looks good, but the seat does sit up a little high but not too much. i cant really do anything about that its going to be that way with any aftermarket seat probably. but here are the pics.

here are the brackets...

differece from the front...

now there is a little blueish "tint" to them but remember again i had the flash on so in the bright *** sun and the really bright flash it is going to pick up most every little thing. it looks very good in person imo. but lmk what you guys think.

ya when the paint hardens it does harned lol it is stiff but i dont mind it for right now im going to keep them in here for a little while and see what i think. i paid little to nothing for these seats, i already have a friend from school interested in them so i might just sell them to him and buy a new set or i might just recover these completely idk i have a neighbor that does alot of sewing ill see what she wants to recover them...

Same way I did my brackets, and yes, the racing seat backs do sit up high, but I guess its for safety. Problem is that if you use the racing seat brackets then the seats will sit too low (for me). I could barely see out of the windshield, and no vision out of the rear view mirror.

Are you planning to put racing harnesses in? I had my racing seats with the stock belts in for about 3 months. It wasn't too fun since the racing seats don't have the seat belt guides, and the stock belts tend to slide up around your neck. I have 5-point harnesses for mine, but I cant find a harness bar, and I don't want to put a cage in. So ive ordered some 6x6 .25" Steel plate and 6 ft. .5" Steel tubing to make my own bars. I'm gong to weld the plates to the floor then have the tubing cut into 2 3ft. sections and bent into a U then weld them to the plates. At the top of the U i'm going to mount each harness. Thats the only thing I could come up with. If you are going to put in racing harnesses and you have a better idea, please let me know.

what i planned on doing was recovering my headliner and welding a semi-thick piece of flat steel to the roof coming down through the headliner... only like a half inch of the plate would be visible though. and then i was going to drill a hole and bolt both the harnesses to that one hole per side... now that is just my idea but lmk what you think about that.

im suprised more people arent interested in this though when i searched about racing seats on this board everyone talked about how hard it was to get them mounted in there and not too many people have seemed interested in the mounting. i mean its pretty self explanitory you just have to get out there and do it but like i said there was alot of people that were clueless about how to do it.

Yea, your idea sounds good, just dont flip the car, lol. I would try that, but my car has t-tops.

About more people doing it, I saw the same thing when I did mine. Everyone was like, you have to make custom brackets, its too much trouble to mount. You have to change the bolts on your floor pan, etc. But after looking at my seats and brackers and seats, I decided that the way we did ours would be easy, and it was.

my stock black seat was touched up w/ fabric dye by myself back in the day.

the thing looked brand new, never had any problems with the dye. mind you i didn't do a color change or anything...

they look good maroon, now just add a little more black in the interior to set them off a bit more. or maybe just a pic facing forward, with the dash and console and everything.

i never got around to doing the driver side and i took the passenger side seat out a couple weeks ago and sold them to one of my friends i just wasnt happy with them, they sat up too high were too stiff and didnt really go with the interior, but i have decided to get some 4th gen seats i think.

These are the ones I am buying.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Does anyone know the feel of Velour compared to leather. I have leather right now and dont want to get rid of the sleek feel of it and was wondering how the velour feels. I sat in ones at Summit Racing but they were the cloth material racing seats so......I still dont know how they feel.

Anybody know if 5-point can still be used if I dont lock in the last piece (the crotch piece)? Cuz if I have to in order for it to keep thwe others locked in I am getting a 4-point
