Heater core plastic holder broken!!
Where do you buy the piece that holds the heater core into the heater box. It cracked when I was pulling it out. I could glue it, but I would rather replace it. It is in a 1986 T/A With A/C.

weel I am not sure if that piece gets too hot for duct tape. Well I went to the local repair shop and they said there ordering glue that is made for that type of application.

go to the salvage yard and look for the third gen car with the most ripped apart dash, chances are they havent gotten to the heater core part yet and that bracket is the same for all third gens. bet ya can pick it up for $2 at worst.
if ya hafta unscrew anything take a 7mm nut driver.

I broke the exact same piece when I did my heater core. Went to the junkyard and found an 83 with an almost completely gutted dash. Took all of a minute to remove the piece. When I asked the yard how much they wanted for it, they just looked kinda annoyed and told me to just take it.

they thrive on making money with the common stuff such as steering coulmns, doors, seats and so on.
Glad you got it fixed! Yeah it never ceases to amaze me on some of the stuff I've gotten from the yards for dirt cheap. I've walked out with overhead consoles complete with the rare flashlight for a measly 10 bucks, T5 shift plates in great condition for 5-10 bucks each. In fact I just scored a rebuilt WC T5 complete with bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, pedals, linkage, shift plate, etc., for $130. Most yards don't know the thirdgen f-bodies intimately enough to know what the misc. stuff is really worth.
I just changed mine again on Sat. So much for a "lifetime" guarantee huh? When I attempted to remove the hoses, one of the tubes came right out of the core along with the hose! The solder had completely failed on both of the tubes where they go into the core. It did last 8 years, but I was really hoping I'd never have to change it again since they're such a PITA to do. I did use a little more finesse when I removed it this time and managed to remove it without breaking that plastic piece this time. I figured out that if you loosen up a couple of the screws on the heater box to the left of the core cover, you can flex the heater box enough to get the core out without breaking anything. Worked great. I also managed to do it in about half the time compared to the first time I had to do it.

Yeah... I had to replace mine twice within a months time becasue the first one I replaced had a big hole in the fin area so I could not see it. The new one is holding up so far. The second install deffinately was faster though. And I figured out about those other bolts to loosen as well. Also well I had the dash and console out I cleaned the vents of all the dust and dirt that has been building up for the past 21 years. It gives the air a much cleaner scent.
Man that sucks to have to change it twice within a month! At least I got an 8 year reprieve between times on mine. I also helped a buddy of mine do his on his 90 Iroc just about a year ago. I also cleaned up a bunch of stuff while doing mine. All that stuff that falls under the category "while you're there".

a lil "help ya out" tip, go to a tool supply and get a flexible extension. when doing birds reach thru where that panel comes off below the pouch to get the top screw and on maros reach up the side and bend the extension over to the screw, a lil tough but VERY doable.
