Simple question: Manual upper shift boot

I am putting a manual transmission in my formerly automatic car. All I need now is the finishing touches. I just got a manual shift plate from eBay and a new upper boot from Hawks. I can see how the boot appears to go in, but it looks like I need a rectangular plastic piece that screws into the shift plate and clamps the boot into place... is that correct?

Please help me get this thing in. If it is what I think it is, I am going to have to rig something up.

Can someone show me a picture of one? If I can't find one, I can probably just make it.

Re: Simple question: Manual upper shift boot

When I did my auto to manual swap I couldn't find a manual shifter plate, so I "modified" my auto plate. I also made a bracket to mount my home made shifter boot to the modified shifter plate. My bracket is made out of 24 ga. sheet metal.

Ok, thanks. I will buy the sheet metal tomorrow and fashion it into shape by the evening.

Re: Simple question: Manual upper shift boot

I forgot to add that I used two pieces of sheet metal. I had to sandwich the boot between the two pieces to keep it in place.

Re: Simple question: Manual upper shift boot

I have a manual shift plate, just missing that piece. I believe if I create something similar to what you have done, only with 90* bends over the sides, it will hold it in place just like the stock piece would. If that doesn't work, I will use your idea and sandwich it with two pieces. Thanks!

Re: Simple question: Manual upper shift boot

Well, I spend about an hour or more working on piece of steel to use. I basically did complete it, but in my haste I took off too much material from the interior of it and also cut off a piece that I had wanted to bend. I ended up with a piece that could work with some creative mounting.

However, in the middle of mounting the boot with the plate, I got frustrated with the whole thing and decided to try something else. I had a clam clip dispenser in the office that I've never used. Thought this might work out as a temporary fix until I get the factory piece. But it seems to work much better than I had anticipated, that I will probably just keep it permanently.
