Gauges

What three gauges do you think would be the most important to have in the car? I was thinking oil and trans temp and maybe a vacuum gauge. Triple gauge pod is on the way. I would like to have auto meter gauges only. Suggestions and install info is what I'm after, and as always, thanks ahead of time.

Re: Gauges

I was thinking fuel pressure, but does anyone have a serious reply? What are you guys using in your cars for gauges? I noticed that some people hide the nitrous pressure gauges in their cars so this summer when I start spraying, I will try to hide the gauges where the ash tray is. I'm getting the pod for the cost of shipping so I don't know what I should put in there. Any ideas?

Re: Gauges

if you are just looking for gauges to monitor critical engine temps/pressures

oil pressure, water temp are a must, gas is important, a vacuum gauge is not worth a damn unless you are using forced induction, a wide-band o2 would be useful.

Re: Gauges

I agree, oil pressure and water temp are probably your most critical. Then if you want to pull apart the fuel rail, fuel pressure woudl be pretty nice to have (should you not ever start). Then when you get to tuning, as suggested wideband, a/f ratio.

Edit, If you're looking for easiest set up: volt, vacuum, temp

Re: Gauges

are you lookin to monitor your status or tune?

monitor status: oil pressure, oil temp, water temp

tune: wideband o2, fuel pressure, and an accurate tach (stock tach is about as accurate as a politician)

Re: Gauges

I have a 89 formy 350 auto so from the factory I have the coolant temp, and oil pressure. I would like an oil temp and fuel pressure. How hard would it be to wire and should I get electric or mechanical gauges? Thanks ahead of time for the input.

Re: Gauges

stock temp and pressure guages are more accurate than the tach, but still not very precise.

neither oil temp or fuel pressure is really that difficult, just possibly time consuming. I would use electric, but thats me.

for oil, ive seen somewhere an adapter that fits between your filter and the filter adapter on the block, kind of like an oil cooler adapter, that was set up to have guage senders attached. saves the trouble of tapping a hole in the oil pan to fit the sender.

Re: Gauges

Great! Where do I get this adapter and what is the part number. I wanted to get all autometer gauges but if your adapter only works for certain gauges, I could be open minded.
