160 MPH Speedo in 85 IROC wheres it from?
I picked up an 85 IROC a few weeks go and have been sorting out all the little glitches the car has. Its a really clean car, the interior is near perfect. It has a 160 MPH speedo that I know isnt stock. The needle is the same as all the other guags, the MPH numbers are white, the KPH numbers are light blue.
The odometer works, but the tripometer does not, which really isnt a big deal to me. The high beam indicator is on the speedo upper section. Just curious what it may have come out of!
Also, the fog light switch is not in the same panel as the headlight switch, its below mounted to the lower dash. Its a factory switch, not really sure if its supposed to be there, or why anyone would move it there.
Thanks!

Re: 160 MPH Speedo in 85 IROC wheres it from?
I picked up a nice 85 iroc this fall as a project car for this winter that I want to put a ls3 into. Mine had the standard 85 mph speedo that I replaced with a factory 145 mph. They are cable driven. On my replacement speedo I see also that the trip odometer does not work which is common. There is an article on this site that explains how to fix the broken j bracket that is the common cause
I also have the fog light switch below where I would have expected it. It is mounted on the lower dash panel on the left hand side even though right above it in the traditional dash area there looks to be a spot where it would go. My '91 z28 has it mounted in that expected spot

I rember hearing about overlays for the speedo that make it read up to 160mph. IIRC there was a thread in the History/Restoration forum about it...was a long time ago 5 maybe 6 years. I've been away from this site for a couple of years (I can't even rember my old name, lol), so I don't know if there was a more recent one.

I have seen it before, but cant remember where... Maybe a pace car part? I would post this up in history/restoration.

About the cluster:

About the trip fix:

The fog light switch on my 85 is directly below the headlight switch. The rear wiper switch is on the lower dash left hand side.

Thanks guys, thats exactly the speedo I have.
If it starts to get to me I will have to try the trip fix, but for now its ok.
I picked up a used headlight switch panel with the fog light switch, but I may just leave it where it is for now. I dont need an empty hole in my dash, or a fog light switch that does nothing!

Also something to consider, Bruce at Hawk's rebuilds speedos.
I was talking to him about having mine done before I decided to go the autometer route and he stated that in the process of rebuilding, he could also mod the speedometer to just about any speed you wanted done. Paint, readings and all.

That is one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time, I wish I could get ahold of one of those. I have to settle for my 145 Iroc cluster I swapped in. (sigh)
Cheers!!!
