trunk problem

I disconnected my trunk motor because it never really worked right, so its a regular latch now. My right side of my trunk lines up with my body, and is secured tight. but my left side is about a half inch higher than my body, and is loose.
It bounces around when i drive hits hard when i hit a bump.
Anyone else have this problem?

Re: trunk problem

i believe it could be that when you close the hatch the motor pulls down the down the hatch to form a tight fit. but since you disconnected your motor, the hatch is not secured tightly and that is why it is flapping around.

Re: trunk problem

I fixed this problem on mine. What it is is the motor that pulls it down is not pulling it down all the way so you have to push it (the motor assembly) down all the way and find a way to secure it. The plastic that surrounds my motor was cracked but fortunately one hole still accepted the bolt that screws into it. I dont recommend this but I had to do something because exhaust was coming in. Once I got it (by closing and opening the hatch several times to adjust it) secure and even on both sides, I drilled 2 holes in the sides of the track and put screws in so it would be secure. I would someday like to have the motor working so I did it in a way that does no damage. Some say its a slam hatch but I adjusted mine pefectly so you just have to close it and apply a little pressure to get it to lock. You dont have to slam it and its sealed and even. Yes its Jerry RIgged but pretty much everything needs replaced on mine so this is a quick fix until I get more funds. I hope this helps. If you want to do it the right way. Top Down Solutions right here on the sight.

Re: trunk problem

the glass has a surprising amount of flex in it. You can adjust the position of the pull down and get it relevantly tight but it will never be like the pull down.

I highly recommend rebuilding the pull down. I hit a junk yard and found 3-4 and took them home and built one good working one as mine was trashed when I bought the car.

The other option is to find a factory car with the fixed latch and mount it to your car. I don't remember what years had them but I think it was the early 3ed gen camaro.

Top Down Solutions is a good place to get the parts. I was able to get the housing from the dealer a couple years ago, don't know if you still can.

When you rebuild it replace the hold up structs otherwise it will not be long before someone drops the hatch to hard and breaks the housing.

I pretty much don't allow anyone but me to close it.

Many Caddies have a pull down mechanisim I don't know the part exchanges but that would be another junkyard source.

Re: trunk problem

Yes I totally agree that replacing the motor is best. However, If my hatch had any tighter of a seal, it would be too low.

Re: trunk problem

Re: trunk problem

my right side is up to high but i figured it was from one struts being stronger than the other. my left one had almost no pressure and the right one was like new.. i switched them and the hatch seems to be getting straighter over time
I should just get a new set so i know they are the same.
