When we get a heavy rain, I get a wet backseat. Not too wet, but enough to annoy me. I can't seem to find where the leak is.

 

If it isn't from T-Tops check the rear hatch seals and attachment bolts. Remove the interior center plastic piece to see if you can find out where the water is coming from.

 

Are there any suprises when I remove the plastic piece? I'm gonna do this tomorrow morning so I have some time to get prepared. It's not the t top btw..

 

Lol, I hope not. Just looking for residue from where water may have been. (The long center piece with four screws.) You should be able to see the mounting screws for the hatch once it's removed. You could also have someone run a hose along the outside to look for it while it's off as well.

 

If you have a friend that can spray the roof with a hose while your in there it will speed up this process.

 

just as scorpner has said.. remove the interior piece. its not hard at all. just be careful not to scrape the headliner, if it is wet it will tear very easily. i had the same problem once. my hatch bolts were in wrong. and it caused it to leak even when it was closed securely. in the long run it ended up ruining my seats and i had to get them replaced.

 

My seats are ok, my headliner looks like an old torn ladies dress. I'm gonna have it repapolstered.

 

yeah im gonna do the same eventually. lol and i guess all the water over time, corresponding with floridas hot sun caused my seats to begin to rip. and once it started it was too late. all the cloth started to tear.

 

Yea, I know what that florida hot sun, and the rains can do. I lived in clearwater for four years.... I still miss it though. I can't drive year around. I have a winter beater...

 

i hate this weather bro..lol my ac doesnt work in my bird lol and this 95 degree weather sucks.. and the heat really takes a toll on my interior. i pretty much have the whole interior redone but the heat just makes keeping up on my car a bigger chore.

 

Well don't feel alone. I drove most of the time when I was in Clearwater w/o air. I have air in my 92, well it works anyway. I just don't like having that windows rolled up look in the summer. I have had them up alot cause it's been to cool. We had the coolest july on record. Been in the dang seventies.

 

thats my kind of weather.. and yeah id much rather have the windows down.. everyone ive known with a thirdgen wether it be camaro or firebird, the a/c never seem to work properly or get cold in the summer heat

 

I should trade lol... I haven't needed air this summer at all! I remember when I was in Clearwater wishing for cool weather during the summer... I am a mile away from lake mich. Need it warmer!

 

I've found a prominent leak issue with both 3rd and 4th gen Fbodies. The rear hatch, but not at the top or the rear - it's the sides. Where the hatch shape comes down from the roof, and curves towards the back. If you park the car level, or nose pointing downhill, water collects there, and leaks inside. To test, park your car with the rear going downhill next big rain, and see if it's wet afterwards.

I started parking both my 1992 and my 1997 nose facing uphill because of this until I can get them sealed. By doing so, the water travels downwards in the hatch channel, and escapes out the back instead of flowing into my back seat area.

 

I may try this with my ramps. I don't have access to hill maybe like you do. Rains come so unexpectedly around here also. In Michigan, the old saying "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute".

 

I tryed all of the above and it still leaked, I eventually removed the rear quarter plastic panels and found rust holes from the wheel wells on both sides. Might be worth takeing off both rear wheels or panel and having a good look. My car lived first 3 years in eastern canada. If yours has been a southern car it might not be a issue

 

Water has it's way of finding its self everywhere. You may very well have found it. I am still working with my t tops. I have water coming in somewhere, I think I found it and fixed it, but I need to have a good rain to confirm. I'd try patching it with roofing self adhesive patching. and spray undercoating over it. It will work. Even if you plan on replacing the inners, it will work in the mean time.

 

Did you find the leak?
I have the same problem but my car is pointed uphill. it leaks on the same area the right rear seat every time it rains.

 

I did not find the leak yet. I wish I had better news, but notta. I tried running the hose over the roof, but nothing happened. I had wife hold the hose while I watched, but no leak. (I had the headliner out). When It rained long and steady, I had water. Go figure..

 

any updates? try the windshield or hatch

 

Nothing new as far as finding the leak. It's been dry for quite a while here in west Mich. We had an all night rain a couple of days ago, but there was no leak... go figure.. I did apply silicone to the seals, but I don't think that could fix a t top leak.
