4th Gen cluster into 3rd gen - does v6 or v8 matter?
Hey guys,
sorry for not searching the threads properly, but its a time critical question as i have to buy the cluster in the next hour or so, but if I go to use a 4th gen firebird cluster into my car, can I use any 93-97 cluster and re-wire into mine, or does it need to be a specific type? eg V8 cluster from auto etc?
And if so, can they be re-programmed? and if so how is it done?
I'm in australia so i probably wouldnt be able to get anyone here to do it.

Trans does not matter , if you get a V8 cluster your tach will be off if your engine is a V6 and vice versa.

I'm unfamiliar with Birds, but will a fourthgen cluster fit a thirdgen dash without major modification? This would be the case with a Camaro.

Is there anyway to recalibrate for v8?
Anything will fit if you make it.
3rd-4th gen camaros are straight swap i think.
3rd-4th T/A are not, but i'm making a custom dash anyway and the 4th gen is just a lot neater and smaller.

Even a thirdgen 90-92 Camaro cluster won't swap into an 82-89 without major modification. A 93+ certainly won't unless "you make it."
Sounds interesting.

because i found a v6 cluster for $80AUD including shipping in perfect condition on ebay, and the cheapest v8 one i can find is $150AUD and then another $110 shipping.
They might be common as over there, but no-one puts them up on ebay.

Re: 4th Gen cluster into 3rd gen - does v6 or v8 matter?
I'm working on a recalibration fix for the 4th Gen V6 gauges. LT1 gauge clusters aren't freely available in salvage yards everywhere, and the prices for them on Ebay are getting ridiculous. Being able to use a V6 cluster would simplify things greatly, as these are much more common in the yards.

if i'm upgrading to an 0411 PCM to run sequential injection, can i then run one of the newer v8 gauges? or it won't work that way?

Re: 4th Gen cluster into 3rd gen - does v6 or v8 matter?
If it's the 98 - up gauge cluster and ECM/PCM, with all the correct sensors, it should work, as the 98 - up was controlled by the computer. I'm not sure on this though, I'm working on the 93-97 non-computer controlled gauge circuitry only.
