We have eaten in our cars, as we are old and may not have much time left to enjoy our food. However we try to be careful not to make a mess. I have even hauled our pets to the vet in one of our thirdgen's, however I fold down the back seat and cover the area with an old quilt. Someone mentioned Babes, how about babies? Our grandchildren love to ride in the Thirdgen's. It is tough to put car seats in the back seats, but it can be done. As for the music, when the wife is present, it is Country. When I am by myself or with some of my freinds, it is 60's 70's and 80's Heavy Metal. So there is a difference in Rap and Hip-Hop???? I thought the two types of music overlapped... As for mud, I try not getting anywhere near that stuff. It makes a mess. Still the 86 has managed to win Class Winner for 82-87 stock Firebird four years in a row at the F Body Gathering. Hopefully the 82 will show for the first time in Spring 2013, so we must not be messing up either of the cars too badly.

Stating that you don't like a certain race is plain and simple racism. Now saying that you don't like P. Diddy, then that makes the difference between hate and racism.

He wasn't using mud as a derogatory term for hip-hop, bro.

He's talking about wet dirt.

DON'T TOUCH THE STEERING WHEEL
Don't touch the headliner
Don't touch the glass
Don't touch the paint
Don't lean or sit on the car or set anything on the car, it's not a shelf
Don't spill any drinks
No Food
No smoking
Don't slam anything
Don't throw anything out the window
Don't yell at other cars, that's why I have a horn
Don't make obscene gestures to other cars, only I give the finger
Feet on the floor, not the seat or dash or hanging out the window
Everybody wears a seatbelt
Keep your mouth shut if we get pulled over, only I speak to the LEOs
No consent to search, ever (I don't have anything to hide, but I always exercise MY civil rights)

I can agree with these rules. However at my age, I really don't care if a LEO wants to search my car. Refusing a search might make them think that I am hiding something.

My wife, who I love very much has this habit of putting her feet on the dash pad. She takes her shoes off, and her feet are not dirty. When she did this in our 82 all original TA with only 24K actual miles on it, I couldn't help but ask her, do you realize how old that dash pad is? It is probably very brittle, and will crack easily. She reminded me that it is just a car, and was not impressed when I told her how much it will cost to fix the car when she cracks the dash pad with her feet. I am still in the dog house over this one. Does this sound like I am over reacting?

Just for the record, I don't care if she does this in my DD, a Crown Victoria, or in my F-350. I do get pissed when she does it in either of the TA's. Maybe I should just quit driving the TA's completely, or maybe just not drive them when the wife is going?

Few people really take car of and respect their cars . I can tell as a new bie to the 3rd gen Camaro and this site . Most of you are that 10-20 % that F-IN love their cars . Long live the Camaro !

Please inspire me to not put 20,000 miles a year on my first camaro .
I want to save it and drive it , And win the lottery , and -never mind. LOL

I've been watching these election debates from tv (they're shown in Finland also) And I would certainly give my vote for Obama. Rooney is little bit too ******* I think

Edit: I so much hate this hypocrisy what US is having for a long time and now also Europe. I mean certain words you cant say even if you dont mean anything "bad" with it.

By that I mean ******* ****** **** **** etc...

Re: Everybody has rules for their car..what are yours?

I'm not real strict on any level. Just respect me and my car. If I feel (your opinion doesn't matter to me) that you have disrespected me or my car, your out for good. Nobody drives my car but me. My wife can't drive stick so, yeah, I'm the only driver...ever. Most of the above apply. That's just because most above are just common respect for another persons property.

Re: Everybody has rules for their car..what are yours?

I can't stand when people say "It's just a car". My mom's friend owns a 2011 Prius (HAH) and it already looks awful because it's just a car to her. She treats it as transportation an nothing else. The wheels are almost black from the brake dust and it doesn't even have real wheels! Just hubcaps on steelies! I understand letting loose a little bit, bit you've gotta have some moderation. Cars are not just cars to gearheads. To us (or me, at least) cars have their own personalities, and they each have a certain charm. I have always seen faces in grilles, headlights and taillights. I hate seeing cars butchered up with tacky mods because I see what the car used to look like underneath all that. It's like bad plastic surgery.

86WS6, you are not uptight. You just care about your personal little time-piece of American history.

Re: Everybody has rules for their car..what are yours?

DO NOT TOUCH MY DASH
Do not lean every ounce of you fat *** on the back of my seat, like when you are reaching for something in the back seat.
Do not even look at the drivers seat without my permission
Wanna make my car smell like a cab? You can go get one.
All food and drink must pass my inspection. No alcohol. Ever.
Open my doors GENTLY. They have a damn wingspan, they are not you Corolla's doors.
Don't tell me to race someone just because they are passing me. I drive slowly, I cruise.
Do not say "You know that car could totally smoke you." If I wanted a fast car I would've bought a 2002 Camaro.
Do not touch my radio or plug in your iPod so we can listen to your shitty music. Girls, I'm talking to you. Do not mock my music choices. They are classics, so shut up.
If you ask me what kind of car it is, get out.
Get in and out like you have some sort of muscle structure and not like some fat *** who pants just opening the door. I pride myself on my clean, original interior and I get more compliments about that than anything else. I'd like to keep it that way.
NO SMOKING ANYTHING.
NO TALKING ABOUT IMPORTS UNLESS IT IS IN A NEGATIVE LIGHT.

Any one I let drive it,and that's nieces, nephews,my kids, their friends anyone with a license that shows interest must do a burnout,I had my 50 year old wife doing donuts in a empty dry parking lot lot year.

I need a new rear end,the old 9 bolt is peg legging and making awful noises on decel now,I can't imagine why.

As mentioned by others, most of theses are common respect.
Some of the responses are quite humorous!
Although I have done and am still doing my own restoration(s) and I care for my car very much.
It is a car, it is going to get dirty, it is going to break. Try to minimize it though.
If you break it, you bought it.
Ask before you think it is your god given right to change the radio station.

Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake-hole.
No food/drinks; it's a Firebird, not a booth at IHOP
Keep your fingers away from the shifter or they will get crunched
don't you dare question the superiority of the 3rd gen Firebird in the automotive selection. If I hear any hint of "but it's so old and unreliable", "it's too loud" , "why don't you just get a Honda?", then you are welcome to hitchhike in the first Honda that picks you up after I kick you out on the side of the Interstate!

Re: Everybody has rules for their car..what are yours?

This is an old topic but I remember over 30 years ago when I first got my ‘86 Trans Am, it seemed one guy in particular use to always be opening and closing the map pocket until I told him to quit. Then he was always wanting to drive it, constantly begging, until I finally said “I don’t ask to go out with your wife, do I? I haven’t seen him in years.

Don't touch the blue wire hanging under the dash on the passenger side. Don't touch the window vent on the dash. Don't worry about the fuel smell it only happens with the throttle wide open.

Re: Everybody has rules for their car..what are yours?

My rules incorporate some of the more lengthy ones on the last page of these posts...
I would just add:

No Sun, No Stars, No Car.
Absolutely no Food under any circumstances. If we're on the road, we'll park (in the middle of nowhere,) and dine IN.
Beverages are limited to WATER, only. No exceptions.
No bumper stickers, decals or badges that were not original equipment.
If you bitch about anything having to do with the car, including my driving (I only drive the speed limit. I'm 69 and have had plenty of fun,) I'll pull over, let you out and you can call Uber.
There will be no front license plates or brackets on either my 91 or 94. They look like a Ruby in a Goat's *** against the painted bumpers. (Even though they're personalized.) I'll take my chances with Texas DPS.
I am armed everywhere I go. Sometimes more than one. If you don't like it, follow me in your Prius with the "coexist" sticker on the back.
When we get to our destination, I will break out the "bug & smudge" remover before I do anything else. If you don't want to wait on me, start without me.
My 15 year old Blue Heeler gets dibs on "shotgun." If he wants to go, you're screwed.
