T Top Screws and What are these things?

Where can I get screws to hold the plastic trim onto the edge of the t tops?

Also, I noticed these black sticky square things used to cover up holes in certain spots on our car's bodies. What are they for?

And last, what is this door piece for? (metal)

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

The screws might be a junkyard part or even try the dealer.

No clue what you're talking about with the black squares.

The metal clip is a spacer to keep TTop cars' doors aligned. Without it, the body flex could allow the door to twist and hit the door jamb. The spacer keeps the closed door tight.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

those black square things in that pic link you posted is for some sort of ventilation for the area of the 6 X 9 speakers that fill that hole .. someone plz correct me if I am wrong and those metal pieces near it is for some sort of aliment im guessing because they are on all the cars some are metal and some are plastic.

those screws you are talking about I think by your vague description ate either the little phillips type screws that hold the pilar post near the top ???? if so just hit up any junkyard and look for a t top camaro ... I purchased a parts car and took off all of the screws for little misc. nick nacks when ever i need them.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

This hole was covered by one of those black squares. They are like really sticky duct tape. Should find one behind the kick panel or whatever its called.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

You dont have to worry about it, but if you really want it you can buy it at a roofing store. Call Lowes or Home Depot and check there. Bithathane is the same material that is used in car stereo sound dentening such as Dynamat (except that bitchathane doesnt have the aluminum backing).

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

The vents in the doors are there to allow the air to escape as the doors are closed. Without them air would get caught between the door and the seals and the door would resist being shut easily.

While it could be a vent for the speakers, its way too much volume for that. The speakers actually vent themselves through the unibody towards the rear of the car.

I happened to see those on a car at the junkyard today and was wondering the same thing. I'd never seen them before. My car certainly does not have them.

I wish mine didn't sometimes, because I noticed the one on my driver door rubs anymore.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

That metal piece's main function is to help keep the door from sagging down in time while closed. It also lets you know that the door is beginning to sag which of course would be a sign when you notice a "new unusual" sound when you close the door.

They didn't stop. They were on 3rd gens from 1982 up through 1992. Again, they were found on ttop and convertible cars.

Here we go. Mine is a 86 IROC-Z with T-Tops. You can see in my door jamb that there is no metal stub. They must of been upgraded in late 80's.

86Iroc.........Is it possible you have non factory installed t-tops?
My 84 has those striker pads. Even my 72 Pontiac ragtop has the
same identical striker pads.

Prob. GM quit using them by 86???????????

Well from what I have read in the past, a factory hard top converted to a t-top (by a third party shop) have they're very own glass tops (plus they are a bit smaller). Well my T-Tops when dismantled, have the GM part numbers on the inside of the plastic housing (140xxxxxx). There are no obvious modifications of the roof aswell. So to answer the question, your guess is just as good as mine as far as that they probably stopped by 86. Also, my IROC was manufactured in Van Nuys CA. plant, not the Mid-West plant. So there are differences such as in Cali, there was a recall for my IROC because of the California paint standards. CA laws does not permit solvant based paint so there was a recall for water based paint while in the Mid West, Camaro's continued to be painted with solvant based paint. There may be that difference, I dont know. I could call GM but more than likely there is nobody there that use to deal with with the 3rd Gen, (hence, retired or found other jobs). All I got to say is that I love my T-Top Z-28 IROC-Z.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

It's not a plant issue. My car is a Van Nuys car. When looking at your door jamb, I see 2 holes above the jamb vent. What are they? They are the mounting points for the wedge. Someone prior to you removed them for some reason. Your car did have them. Cars that don't have them don't have the holes in the jamb.

Here's a pic of a hardtop car without the holes for the wedge.

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

My 86 IROC has them... Mine was an Ohio car, but I don't think that matters much tho. There are two holes where it looks like the wedge is missing... You can find that peice on gmclassicparts.com or maybe scrap yard.. Beleive me, i've been attacking my doors for quite some time now and they're starting to close and function like a brand new car, just takes time and patience to restore them.

You sure this isn't to keep moisture out or anything like that?

Re: T Top Screws and What are these things?

Well I'm not sure what it for. But I can tell you is that the weatherstrip is
to keep out moisture. If you look at the roof rail, there are a few holes and voids. So with that said, if you seal up every hole to the roof rail, then your reducing the area for water or moisture to properly escape. If the water or moisture stays in that area, rust will only be accelerated.
