Removing overhead console in favor of the stand alone dome light....?

I am beginning to really hate the overhead console in my 91Z. It is always in the way and it doesn't serve much purpose for me.

If I remove it, can I just install the stand alone dome light/map light setup? Do I need any add'l mounts or will the dome light mount to my existing roof structure?

Thanks

I think you'll have holes in your headliner from the mounting points of the overhead console. If you need any of the regular dome light parts, let me know. I just removed them from my '91 GTA in favor of an overhead console.

Yes, you will have holes in the headliner from the overhead console mounts. But you can remove it, and the stand alone light will hold up the headliner.

I'm going to be getting a new headliner when I do the swap, so its no biggie.

Does the dome light have the map lights in it? I may be interested in yours if its complete.

The stock dome lights don't have a map light. Its just the one dome light and its housing. No map light.

There are dome lights with map lights, not sure if they were a 3rd gen option, but I had one at one time - a perfect fit. I see them on ebay all the time, just search "82 92 camaro dome" and you should see them.

Interesting. I learn something new all the time on this website. I've never seen a dome light with map lights in a thirdgen.

Facing backwards. Just behind the map pocket & just in front of the dome light. You probably have a rectangular opening. If you don't, then the map light is in there. Push it in, to get it to pop out.

Modern, I have set for sale in the classifieds, if you can't strike a deal with Dante.

avilla, the flash light shown above should clean up. Afterward, use a bit of dialectic grease to keep it from corroding.

The following is a link to install LED's in the overhead:
