Re: aftermarket gauges
No this will not be a direct replacement
Your Speedo is Electric, The VDO one is Manual
Your Water Temp is PROBABLY Manual, the VDO is Electronic
You Fuel Gauge is 0-90 Ohms, The VDO one is 10-180 Ohms
I'm sure you could make the modifications to use that set, but it would likely cost you the money you were trying to save by using it. I'm using iEquus Gauges in my Camaro. You can get them at O'reilly's and they look good. I'm using the 8000 Series. I think i paid around $200 for a full set.

Re: aftermarket gauges
Here's a link where i was showing off my Installation. The picture isn't great, but the gauges have a brushed aluminum look in the front. They're the iEquus 8000 Series. There are also the 6000 and the 7000 series that you can get. Overall, i'm pleased

Re: aftermarket gauges
What's wrong with the hood that the car came with?
What's wrong with the Wheels the car came with?
What's wrong with the Interior color the car came with?
What's wrong with the Original Color the car came with?
What's wrong with the Engine the car came with?
What's wrong with the Tire Size the car came with?
What's wrong with the Shifter **** the car came with?
What's wrong with the Rear End the Car Came with?
What's wrong with the Dash the car came with?
My Point? If you're trying to restore a car, you look for OEM parts and try to make it look the way it was when it was new. If you're trying to make the car your own, you change things. How many people do you know that move into a house and keep it the same way? When you get your desk at work, do you just put paperwork on it, or do you have decorations and pictures of Family and Friends? Why do people bother to add things like Subframe connectors and upgrade their suspension? None of that stuff was originally needed, right? If everyone wanted to restore their car to original, this would be a pretty boring forum. Everyone would be talking about the SAME EXACT THING. In my case, i had the gauges with the double sided needles. I hated those. What's wrong with a little originality?
If you just meant that you could help him fix what he had and save some expense, i'm sorry i jumped on you.

Re: aftermarket gauges
There was no indication given of "making it his own". He said he put in a carb, and now he needs gauges, which suggests that he's under the mistaken impression that his gauges won't work with a carb.

Re: aftermarket gauges
1986chevycamaro-- when you say "...no gauges at all ", do you mean--NO GAUGES, as in they don't work?
Or the gauges have been taken out?

Re: aftermarket gauges
Thanks. So far so good on em. I got all the kinks worked out but the Fuel gauge and i'm convinced that it's the sender. The Gauges all turn red at night too.

Re: aftermarket gauges
So you have no gauges at all? Or they're still there but all the wires are gone? Are the senders still on the engine? Do you want aftermarket gauges for appearance, or do you just want the quickest way to have functional gauges again?
