I remember seeing someone that did the 4th gen console in a stock 3rd gen camaro with the stock dash. Does anyone have pics of that swap? I was looking into making some change inside the car because its to plain, and it would be nice to have a cup holder with out modding one in the 3rd gen console. If anyone has pics of it done please post them i want to see how it would look. Thanks

Because of the way the Camaro radio & AC controls are mounted, the only way to do it in a Camaro is to swap in a Firebird radio & AC pod, along with the 4th gen concole.

 

Yea that was going to be my question. I guess it wouldnt hurt since i already have the GTA A/C control unit. Now the firebird/GTA radio/a/c mount is the same as the camaro? Like i can bolt it right up with no modding?

 

I have a 87 GTA, so I've never done the swap before. So I don't know for certain that the Firebird stuff is a 100%, no mods required direct bolt-in (or what tweaks there would be needed to put one in), but I also know of no reason it wouldn't be.

 

Well theres one way to find out. just to ask since the 4th gen consoles fit gta/firebirds better, is there a certain year/model of the 4th gen consoles that fit/look better in the gta/firebirds? Or do they all work?

 

AFAIK, they all fit. BUT.....The newer you get? The more cup holders you get. I think 98, is when they put in 2 front cup holders, passenger side was a swing-out & rear cup holders, and 93-97 being just the 1 cup holder.

 

You don't have to use a firebird radio and heater pod. You can trim the fourth-gen console and the camaro radio pod to fit together. Been done before.

 

Guess ill have to look at them and decide. Both 4th gen camaro and trans am consoles work right?

Since the 3rd gen Camaro console & radio/AC mounts are 1 solid piece.....Are you saying that one can just cut the 3rd gen Camaro console in half, to separate the radio/AC mounts from it & slide the 4th gen console in under it? Keeping the 3rd gen Camaro radio/AC portion intact?

Sounds risky, cutting something in half to make it fit & not being able to resell it, when there is a solution to cutting.

i wish i had kept my old console to cut up...that really doesnt look half bad, i would REALLY like cup holders ha ha

 

Hey Stephen how did you get the power window switches there its because ima get one of these for $25 so ima put it in also was it a hassle to intall, also since my car is an auto and the console is for an auto too would the handle align or would i have to do some cutting?

 

Not my car, so I dunno. Just looks like a flat plate made to fit the ashtray, with the stock window switches in it.

Your wrong about the 97s My 1997 Firebird had 4 Cup Holders.. So just to clarify
it would be 93 - 96 that had one cupholder.
