modify speedometer
I have an 85mph speedometer and it's not cutting it going to work... grin! has anyone internally changed their speedometer and then added a new face plate to read 145 or even 200?
hope I'm not asking a question already discussed but couldn't find it by searching

Re: modify speedometer
Today I found out you're right - that swapping would be easier. By odd co-incidence a friend stopped by work today. I asked him and he explained his experience w/older speedos on mid-60's fords (guess it's the same principle). Anyway he said a magnet at the end of the speedometer cable spins inside a coiled spring that has a pointer attached to the end of the coiled spring metal. As speed of the cables nncreases the magnet circles faster and that pulls the coiled causing the pointer to show faster on the gauge. he said any adjustment would need to be very slight. The thought of trying to make a fine adjustment without any specs makes this project idea super impractical for me, so I'd be much better off buying one instead.

Re: modify speedometer
I am running into the same problem
I'm tired of seeing the needle smack the barrier at 85mph and learning what speed im at by checking the tach while going past a police radar stand =P. I thought the faceplates had the same amount of spacing in them for both the 85 and 145 so to interchange them would be fine. but i could be very wrong on that, does anyone know fore sure?
