Re: gauge swap??

Two things you have to be sure of:
1. Has to be a mechanically driven speedo, all the f-bodies up to either 89 or 87 are, I think 89 but its been a while
2. Any tach not from a car that had a 4 banger will be inaccurate, so you either will have to find a 4 pot tach(good luck I haven't found a 6 cyl one yet...) or get an aftermarket tach

Also you will have to buy an oil pressure sending unit to swap out with the switch, same for coolant temperature switch, needs swapped to a sending unit, oh and getting it out and back in the first time is a pita, particularly disconnecting the speedo cable, to get it back in you will probably have to drop the steering column a little

Re: gauge swap??

82-89 Camaros were equipped with mechanical speedos. Birds were mechanical 82-85 or so, though some base models may have had the mechanical in later years.

Re: gauge swap??

I know exactly what you mean. you don't get a tach, temp gauge, etc., but you get a fuel gauge the size of ur HEAD! drives me crazy. I'd love do swap out the gauges at some point, post pics please, would love to see it finished!

Re: gauge swap??

are you looking for a set of gauges? ive got a panel from an 85 berlinetta which originally had the 2.8 with oil pressure, big tach, temp and big speedo. but the speedo only goes to 85.

Re: gauge swap??

yea. thats my problem as well, im just not sure that aftermarket gauges would look good at all in our cars. but im gonna have to have a tach... i've looked into snaggin some out of a ta and a couple other things, but i honestly just have more important thing i have to work on first, she is in kinda rough shape... ill keep my eye out for swaps that have been done and information on them, keep us posted, really interested to see how it works out for ya.

I'm assuming you have the engine in your profile, in which case you need a v8 tach, any other won't read correctly.
