I recently swapped out my whole dash cluster panel because the Odometer had stopped working (easier than just doing the 1 gauge) but the new odometer shows less miles on it.
I don't want it to be showing wrong & am proud of my 230,000 miles, so I want to roll the new forward to read right.
If I understand it right, it is cable driven up to the dash, converted into an electronic signal, then the electronics spin the odometer. There was obviously not a cable connected to the back of the gauge.
Can I just pull the cable off the tranny, chuck it in my drill & spin it until the miles are added?

Were it a speedo run by a cable, you just take a piece of cable, plug it in to the end of a drill, then the end of the gauge and spin it for oh...hours until you get the desired mileage. No idea on an electronic speedo. Probably the same principle though, just take out the box that converts the signal to electronic pulses or so?
The problem with using a drill is that it takes 1000 turns of the cable (or the VSS gear) to register a mile. If your drill turns 2000 RPM, then you can put on 2 miles every minute. If your drill hasn't burned out after an hour of continuous operation, you'll only have added 120 miles.

your odo probably stopped working because the little motor that turns the gears died. if you take the gauges back out, you can disassemble the gauge and should be able to swap the counter to the new pod using the new motor.

Nope. The little plastic gears cracked & broke. Oh yeah, that was the Tripmeter, but still the reason I replaced the cluster & got a 145mph gauge out of doing it.
The first repair/inspection/emissions record on the Carfax after the new odometer will throw a big red flag on the car for 'inconsistent odometer reading'. Not exactly a selling point for most people.

#2-Carfax is such a joke anyways. I've seen reports with accidents that never happened as well as wrecks that did happen, covered by insurance, yet not show up.
#3-I replaced it the first time over 3 years ago & "dropped" 50,000 miles. Just replaced it again & dropped another 20,000 miles. So any Carfax would already show a sudden drop in miles. Even the annual State Inspection already shows that.
Despite doing my state inspection yearly? No red flags have come up & is easily explained. Besides, I have no plans to sell it & I don't care so it won't matter anyways. And I don't want to REMOVE miles, getting it to show lower than it really is. I want to ADD miles for it to show more accurately.
With a drill it will be a headache get a square house fan take the protective plastic mesh off put something that will fit in you speedometer to make it turn I used the cap leg of a sharpie marker I super glued it standing up right in the middle of the fan then I placed the speedometer in top of the plastic mesh and inserted the sharpie cap leg into the speedometer I ducked taped it on the sides to secure shaking then I laid the fan facing up with a breathable pedestal (some pieces or house brick) and turned the fan on it makes my speedometer go about 30 mph in one whole day of letting it run at home it has put about 450 miles I need 21k miles so I got a ways to go
If the odometer works and the mileage is just off, you can remove the odometer from the gauge cluster, and with 2 jewelers flat tip screwdrivers pry up on the little retaining bar on the back side of the odometer, and with the other screwdriver gently rotate the digits.
i did the exact same thing on my 91 TA to make a mileage correction the PO didnt do after changing the cluster.
