NRG Quick Release Steering Kit...usable on third gens somehow?

been reading up on it and was wondering if anyone knew if they could work with our setups?

from what im reading...i need a hub, quick release, and steering wheel.

what hub would fit the quick release or does it fit the stock one? anyone know?

looking at this quick release and this wheel:
release
http://www.raceinspired.com/p-14858-...iliateid=10065

wheel
http://www.amazon.com/NRG-Universal-.../dp/B001BC0UCE

but im stuck on the hub part...
saw this video as well but its installing on a 240 but id imagine its quite similar to installing it on a third gen right?

Re: NRG Quick Release Steering Kit...usable on third gens somehow?

i'm not using that grant theft kit, mine is the SFI hub for racing purposes.

which GM hub...? there is only one for 5 bolt hole steering wheels from grant, kinda hard to screw it up

Re: NRG Quick Release Steering Kit...usable on third gens somehow?

no the NRG will not bolt to your stock steering column, you need the GM grant quick release hub, that NRG looks like a ***** site.

grant wheels bolt to grant hubs, you need to buy a 5 bolt stering wheel to screw into the 5 bolt hub.

I'm still interested in seeing some pictures. Were your NRG pieces a direct bolt on?

Sounds promising. My worry is that it is different after 89 as there might have been a change made when the airbag came around as this thread suggests: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...eel-grant.html

Re: NRG Quick Release Steering Kit...usable on third gens somehow?

Columns are the same it just has a wire for the airbag. If your not running the bag and dont care cut the wire off or tuck it into the column somewhere. Everything else is the same. oh and pull the airbag light or it will be on all the time

like the other member mentioned, it just pops off quick and easy. It is great for/if you do much dash and wiring work. Its also a great theft deterent. I do some car shows and auto cross events as well as driving the car leisurely around town, just gives me piece of mind.

My bad. I thought he meant 'function' when I read " what it does". It provides a way to remove the wheel quickly for ease of entry/exit when a roll cage or fixed seat is used.

its just easier to get out of the car with the roll bar and it looks cool..also a theft deterrent..

Holy Moly! Sure glad I saw that side view pic before purchasing one. It really appears to move the steering wheel forward. Can you still use the turn signal lever with your hand on the wheel still? The Grant setup doesn't appear to move the wheel out nearly as much.

nope..gotta take my hand off..it does move the wheel closer..the hub pushes it closer to the driver but for me it didnt really change much..only like 2 maybe 3 inches

Even without the roll cage is it still a bit easier to squeeze into the car? I'm 6'1" and got some pretty long legs and my knees barely fit under the steering wheel to get in lol.

2-3" is huge. That totally changes the way the car fits you.

NRG offers a slim disconnect and you can combine that with a flat steering wheel instead of the high offset wheel that itsMikey has chosen and the difference would be minimal.

mine is the slim but yeah i got a deeper wheel..the wheel alone has a 2" outward push..so it probably only moves it maybe an inch or so with a flat..

its probably less than im estimating but it didnt really change the way the car feels in the way youre implying but it did give me the feel that i have more control over the car as this wheel is a tad smaller..

you can get it a lot of placed but yes

and no, you can get any 6 bolt wheel (momo, sparco etc) NRG's stuff is cheap and good quality tho so why not? Nardi was my first choice but $200 for a wheel? nah
