While I was figuring out all of my restorations, making lists, etc, I was looking at the interior of my car. Compared to my exterior, my interior is gorgeous. But there are a couple things about it that I simply am not a fan of.

The center console. No drink holder, not to mention that the console lid is cracked and broken in numerous spots. My shifter face plate is simply horrendous, most of the letters are faded. I want to do an entire center console swap, but not with the stock RS console.

Any ideas?

 

Put a 4th gen console in there...it has cupholders and I think the console lid is hard so it won't crack like the stock one does.

 

4th gen console is not a direct swap - modifying required - but there's a ton of threads here about it.

You could cut out a cup holder (like myself and many others have) in the center console - I used poker table cup holders as an insert and just cut a hole with a hole saw on the drill. New lid covers are available (as well as nice used ones on ebay on occasion), and any sign shop can make a new shifter indicator to replace your faded one with (I had one made about 4 years ago, cost me maybe $10 - they just make a transperancy and print it off computer).

The only issue with the poker table inserts ... they are short. So I cut the bottom off one, and the top off the other, and superglued the topless one to the bottom of the bottomless one, to make a cup holder deep enough to hold a can and still rest my arm on the console lid while holding the shifter (us guys have to hold something ).

 

I'm a big fan of the cup holder mod. For mine I bought a 3 inch plastic cup for RV's or boats like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-bla...Q5fAccessories

The depth is perfect without needing to glue two together.

A pencil to trace the pattern and a box cutter for the hole makes for a great fit:

Diggin the 6 speed. 4th gen seats too?

 

LOTS of camaros came with an analog clock in that spot. My '82 Berlinetta had one and I always thought about hacking it out and putting a cup holder there.

 

Thank you, and yes they are 4th gen (2000 Trans Am). I've seen those analog clocks (mostly Berlinettas??) and have thought the same. I guess the trick would be having a cup that fit the hole size.
