Ok for you hardtop guys that DON'T know, us convertible guys have a JOKE of a dome light so I did this with a LED strip

and this one we all know about the lack of a cell phone charging port so I made one on the door so I can put the phone in the cup holder

I really like the charging port idea, and the LED Strip under the dash is really cool, I might post the pictures of my Speaker Cover and my LED Speakers, and my stereo other than that there really isn't much i have done with my car, how did you fabricate the charging port? I'm thinking about doing that and doing White Faced Gauges with Red Backlights

Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!
well on firebirds the power mirror switch in in the center console so I used a piece I got for the junkyard to replace the first section and installed a lighter socket (yes it clears the window rail just behind it) again from the junkyard and ran the power wires though the wire tube (NOT FUN) plastic trim from junk yard (pocket), lighter socket from junkyard (bottom of tool bag) having a extra charging port (priceless)
(and for all the people out there that say shame shame on taking things that don't belong to me , Hey its for all the times I goto the junkyards and DON'T find ANYTHING yet they still charge $2 to get in!)

Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!
I had originally planned to use the stock gauge cluster and trim, but I don't think there is a way to neatly fit all 6 gauges with the stock trim. Can probably still use the stock gauge cluster housing though just gonna need a new trim piece.

Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!
its a little different for the 82-89 gauge clusters and the 90-92 gauge clusters. you can use a simple flat sheet and cut it to fit and bolt it in place of the stock cluster.

Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!
or you can go with one of these
I'll have to decide how much I want a stock plastic look vs a cheap piece of sheet metal painted black and put on a stock cluster housing.
Which I'm trying to figure out if that abs plastic piece is supposed to go on the stock cluster housing as well. It just looks like a thin trim piece in that single picture they have, and I know that wouldn't be able to bolt into the dash correctly in my 86. The stock cluster housing primarily uses 2 bolts at the bottom back of the cluster to hold it in, and two trim screws at the top keep it from leaning forward.

I wasnt gonna post, but sometimes I forget that my dash doesnt raelly look factory after all. Nothing as nice as what you guys have, but here:

Thats just a narrowband AFR gauge in the center. I'd rather have a vacuum gauge or a wideband there, but oh well. Also have a shift light where the cig lighter used to be.

Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!

Well, I know it's just a shift boot, but I did it all by hand(yes including the sewing) therefore I am proud of it. Right now I am working on the center console converting it to leather. I am thinking red stitching if I can get hold of a sewing machine so that the red stitching wont show my lack of skill. Or just go with black so it wont be as noticeable. I may put cotton as a filler to give it a different look. Hope it turns out like I think it will!
Re: I want to see your custom gauges and other interior mods!
I want to get these gauges as well but my 82 camaro z28 has a dual display on the speedometer (MPH and KMH) With a long needle. Is there any overlay with that display?

Love all the mods.... actually was thinking about doing something like project89's setup to my own 92 a few months back, but I get the feeling I wouldn't be very happy with it till I get a few more performance mods out of the way -- like all of them. lol

Heres my gauge panel, going to add my switches to it eventually. Got the sheet of textured ABS on ebay for $3.

I just used ebay speaker box carpeting on a door panel I cut the original vinyl/fanbric mix off. The factory door panels were always the thing I hated most about these cars. Next I want to get rid of the big arm rest for a smaller handle.

Sorry for the crappy phone pics my gf has the digital camera. I'll get some good ones tommorow hopefully.
