Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement?

Im looking at buying a new black GM ignition lock cylinder with keys for my 85. My ignition key now is stamped with an "A". Does it matter if I buy a new cylinder/key set and the key is stamped with a different letter?

Thanks.

Once you replace the old lock clyliner with a new one those old keys are history.

So there is no physical difference in the way the lock cylinder fits into the column if the keys are stamped with a different letter?

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement?

Its not going to make any difference. I don't know if cylinders changed at all for the duration of third gen production, so just make sure that you get a correct cylinder/key for your model year.

I think the only keys you need to worry about"if your keeping it original" is B48,B49 A-B The "A" is ignition key,the "B" is the hatch, doors etc.

For originality sake, but the main question was if the letter on the key has a different letter, than is the cylinder different. The question was answered though.
