1988 Camaro STEERING COLUMN HELP PLEASE

Ok, so my column is all loose and I pulled the column apart. I tried tightening the 3 torx head bolts. That didnt do it. So went further. The roll pins are tight in there. THATS when I found the two bolts behind the tilt? I think its ethier the tilt assembly or somthing right behind it....anyways, I have to tighten those two weird looking bolts and I should be (crossing my fingers) alllset. But, I need to take out the roll pins and I dont have the "special tool" to take them out with and Advanced Auto Part guys looked at me like I had two heads when I was trying to explain to those (no offense) BONEHEADS what I needed.

Can anyone help me by giving me the name of that tool and where I could possibly find it? I need this ASAP PLEAAAASSSSEEEE

Thanks!

Yes when you pull the wheel off and then remove the 3 screws of the blinker electric you will see the bearing assembly

Re: 1988 Camaro STEERING COLUMN HELP PLEASE

Why would you spend the money on a column (plus shipping, plus wait time where you can't drive) when you can have the thing fixed in a couple hours? The 4 External Torx bolts that are way under the tilt assembly are the ones that come loose and screw up the whole works. You can only see 2 now, but there are 2 more up top. Pull the pins out of the tilt mechanism and the others are visible... Use locking compound on all 4 and never worry about them again.

The worst parts about the reassembly are getting the tilt spring back in again, lining up the headlight dimmer switch lever parts, and keeping the upper bearing parts in place while putting the lock plate on (if the upper bearing retainer isn't fully in position, you WILL bend the lock plate... ask how I know Good thing it was my old junk column!).

ron, thanks for the link. I can't tell you how many plain jane screws I've broken prying against them with pliers to get the pins out... I've gotten lucky a couple times using the screw that holds the lock pin spring in place, but I don't want to push my luck again .
