Re: Help steering column part cant be found!

Where your finger is, is a tab that holds the turn signal switch lever into the wiper switch. Looks like it did not mate up with the matching part.

Re: Help steering column part cant be found!

I believe it's called the pivot and switch assembly. It's number 46 on the diagram. Out of an 88 Firebird service manual.

Found it here. Pretty costly.

Re: Help steering column part cant be found!

That is the wiper switch. You will need to rent/but a steering wheel puller. Then collapse the preload spring underneath the steering wheel lock plate using the original nut(already removed) a 1/4 inch spacer and some small sockets to make up the difference. Now the hard part. There is a ring around the steering column shaft that has to be removed on top of the steering wheel lock plate. An ice pick and a pocket screwdriver will come in handy at this time. Once all that has been removed, not quite a piece of cake yet.
Trust me on this one. Remove the drivers seat so you don't have to stand on your head so much. All the interior hush panels on the driver side have to be removed.
Remove the bracket holding the steering column up (13mm socket) Drop the steering column as far as you can to get to the wiring. Unplug all the wiring and remove all the covers. Bend all the connectors counterclockwise looking down from the top and tape them togther lightly but securely with a pull back wire. (they will only go up and down tne column in a certain position) A flashlight and a cut off close hanger would be handy right now. Remove all screws holding the turn signal switch and wiper switch and pull out of column. Reverse process. Not bad after you have done it a dozen times or so.

dude i dont need a break down on how to disassemble a steering column. I just needed the part name and i think he is right its a pivot assembly. I went to gm today and they showed me the same exact diagram and i believe #46 is the part i need.
