Dash Removel... AAAGHHH!!!
Maybe I'm just ranting, but I can't get the dash out of my car. I have everything unhooked, but there is still one strand of the wiring harness that splits off from the main harness in the dash and goes under the carpet. I'm pretty sure it is for the tail lights and speekers. The only solution seems to be cut the harness of remove the interior and remove the rest of the harness with the dash. Obviousley I'm not removing the entire interior just to remove the dash. Anyone have any experiance with this? It's a '92 RS if that helps... don't know how much the wiring changed over the years.

the part for the tail lights should have 2 connectores for it by the fuse panel. The stereo wiring you can just pul thru what you got there as once the deck is out its on its own. Dont cut it as you will just add to issues down the road

I will check again today once I get out of work, but I'm pretty sure that unless the connectors are under the carpet I can't disconnect it from the dash.

What you would be referring to is for the stuff under the console, the park brake switch, the console light (if equipped), the shift indicator light, the neutral safety switch (automatic), and the lighter socket. No, you can't remove these from the dash harness. Disconnect the connectors for the radio and HVAC controls, however. The lights for the HVAC are on an inline connector.

Re: Dash Removel... AAAGHHH!!!
Well, after so much swearing that I ran out of cuss words I had to make up some of my own, I finally got the dash out... sort of. I didn't cut the harness on the driver side. I ended up pulling if out from under the carpet to give me some slack, So the dash is still connected to the car. I did cut two wires on the passenger side. They ran under the carpet the same as the harness on the driver side. It was a blue wire and a light blue wire. Don't know what they were for. I have a wiring connector kit so I'm not worried about the two wires. The harness on the driver side is about 18 wires and some of them are to two heavy gauge for my connector kit.
Still attached to the car.

This is all the room I've got to work on it. I was hoping to take down the the basement.

I've pulled dashes before, but I don't think I will pull one from a third gen again. I think the LS1 swap was less frustrating.

Re: Dash Removel... AAAGHHH!!!
I know this is an old thread but would you have any pics of the dash once it was removed?
Also, do you have any idea on how to take the harness out from behind the dash. Those plastic clips look really brittle and stuck in an area that is really hard to get at.
I removing mine because I need to put a cage in the car.
Thanks!

This is the only other pic I have.
This doesn't sound like what you're looking for, but there it is anyways. You do have to be careful removing the harness from the dash. I didn't break anything, but I got lucky. My car was garaged since new. There's no rust or worn or brittle parts on it at all. Just take your time and remember how it all goes back together. It is a little tight.

Any places that it can get hung up? I pulled mine out a bit to change the heater core and now it won't go back in all the way. Something on the lower part seems to be hitting something else. Any common problems with the reinstallation or experiences you have had?

The only problems I can really remember having was getting hung up on all the plugs around the steering column and the pedals. I said earlier that I didn't break anything. Well I forgot about the brake light switch on the brake peddle. I snapped it right in half. I would make sure all your wire and connectors are clear. Other than that mine went back in 100 times easer than it came out.
