Grant Steering Wheel

I am looking at installing a Grant steering wheel in my 91 Camaro. The airbag is in poor condition and rather than replace it I thought I'd upgrade the steering wheel. Are there any "Gotcha's" that I should know about? Will the standard installation kit work? All of the Grant listings stop at '89, I think because of the airbag install.

Any information or help would be appreciated.

Slowly upgrading on a budget.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel

it has been done with the 89 kit . i did it , many others have . the only thing is the collar on the steering column needs to be trimmed 1/8" all the way around . be very carefull doing the trimming or finish will look like crap . i used a very fine tooth hobby saw blade by itself . use masking tape on collar before starting . disconnect batt. & airbag before starting . before starting anything & more . there are many threads on this install . read them "ALL" before you start . good luck .

I have done mine last year in my 91. You can cut the hub adaptor instead of cuting up a colum. Its cheaper to replace the 10 dollar hub if you mess up. Also dont forget to take car of that annoying srs dash light. I still have mine in at its annoying to drive at night lol.

Re: Grant Steering Wheel

no trimming needed, with alum 1/8 spacer under the hub adapter cover.

you came make it out of 1/8 sheet alum.

drop it ontop of the hub adapter.
drop on your hub adapter cover (the black bell looking thing) marked with a 27 most of the time

then your spacer and wheel... easy easy

the light part, i saw someone change their dash to some nice red LEDs, i was thinking of doing the same because the rest of my interior is red and black, and the orange/yellowish colors dont mix to well hahhahahaha.

but thank you all who told me about the easier fixes, i will need to do some extra homework, but as long as it works, and i dont need like a whole new column, i am not afraid to do a little tweeking to make things work, thanks guys!!
