CRAP can i get some help with this cluster please

ok so first off got a deal on a 145mph at a junkyard, trick was i had to get it out (which iv done in my car a few times) this one the cable was really tight and in the process i snapped off one of the tabs on the white housing at the bottom just left of the steering column that the outer face would have a screw to hold it on

ok now i DID use the search with not a whole lot of luck just trip meter fix stuff

now i have 2 other clusters i can rob the white housing from an 85mph and a 110.

heres my questions are the wiring pinouts the same on all clusters that are cable driven?

and iv removed all the gauges from other clusters before besides the speedo, anything major i should be carefull of?

and while its out, and my cars drivetrain has no milage i would like to set it to 0 miles if thats possible.

main worry is swaping all of the stuff to another housing, or can i just remove the speedo stuff somehow? and the tach its the 5,500 rpm redline one

okay used google as a search like someone sugested seems the best way to change the milage is just using a drill, check

trip meter fix, check

now, how should i handle the broken white housing having the tab broken off? do you suggest swaping everything over to one of my other clusters housing?

and i cant find a write up on fixing the tach, i found a few posts but nothing straight forward

Re: CRAP can i get some help with this cluster please

okay im glad the pinouts were all the same because the plastic flexi baord crap has a break in it i gues i did when removing it

and im just asuming the new tach wont work properly since very third gen iv had which is 4 and every cluster iv put in them the tachs are always wacky it seems

my last one was corect at idle but under throttle it went up fine just alot higher then actual RPM its like if u used an aftermarket tach and had it set on the 4 or 6 cylinder setting instead of the 8 cylinder of that makes any sence

i JUST got the 145 today so tomorow i was planning on fixing the trip and milage, and swaping stuff around with the help u just gave me.

Unfortunatly i have no idea how the tach will act since the motor wont be ready to fire for the first time for a few more days of work to it if whether and work permits, i was kinda hoping it was a straight forward fix for all tachs like the trip meter fix it

Ive never done the tach repair personally, but this thread explains it pretty good.

Re: CRAP can i get some help with this cluster please

The Camaro printed circuit from 82-84 ( double needled speedos ) has different pin-out than the 85+ Camaro cable speedo's. As long as all your clusters are 85 + you will be fine.

Be very carefull with the printed circuit when working on it. At least 1/3 of the clusters I see these days are bad becasue of a failed printed circuit. After 20 + years the printed circuits have gotten 'comfortable' on the shape they have formed into during all that time & once you begin to bend and move them they they will often seperate.

If you've got to pull the Speedo head apart to repair the trip odoimeter anyway; I'd skip the drill, and re-set the odometer by hand. It only takes a few minutes. You just need to remove the odometer "roll" and re-set it to whatever you want then put it back. There are thread here in TGO that explain how to remove the speedo Needle and faceplate so you can access the Speedo heads' internals and make repairs.

and yea all my clusters are between 85 and 88, i have an 85mog with full guages, a 110mph and now a 145mph, all need reapairs so i gues ill use the 85 for parts and whoever wants the 110 i can ship it to
