I know a bunch of people tried this, so i figured I'd try a small piece to see if I like it. I ordered a 12"x24" piece from amazon and i got it within 3 days. I figured i'd try the cluster bezel to see how i liked it. I LOVE THIS STUFF!! It was easy to use and I love the look of it. I just ordered a large sheet, and i'm going to try to recover my dash pad in it. I'll post pics of that too!

I like the look of it, and the 3M stuff is really forgiving and easy to work with. I'm taking out my dash pad tomorrow and i'm gonna foam the crack, and sand it. The big sheet i ordered should be here by Friday, so I'll cover it then.

 

That really looks great! How did you get the edges so straight? Did you use a razor blade for the edges or did you wrap it around to the back???

 

wrapped it around the back when i could... i got the 3M edge adhesive too, which i used on any part that i needed extra hold. anywhere i couldn't wrap i just cut and used the edge adhesive to keep it in place.. i guess i'll just have to see if it pulls up in time.

thanks... i got the dash pad off today, and filled the cracks with good stuff spray foam. i'm going to sand it down, and the sheet wrap should be here today or tomorrow.. pics soon!

i am waiting for the new speakers to be delivered so i can cut the grills into it.. but it works pretty well!

 

So is that the DiNoc stuff right on top of the foam?

 

it's actually right on top of the original vinyl.. i just sanded down the cracks and filled them with spray foam.. and since i'm using the 6x9 speaker grills in the pad i just figured i'd wait till i have them to cut the holes out for them

 

Awesome man ! How hard was the dash pad yo do ? And how big of a sheet did u need ? Expensive ? Does it have like a textured "feel" to it or us it just smooth ?

It wasn't hard to do at all.. one thing you have to make sure is that you sand the cracks smooth.. it will show any imperfections when you cover it.. i used the adhesive on the parts i knew were going to be hard stretches.. that made it a ton easier.. it's textured which also gives it a 3D look.. i got a 6x6 sheet for $65 ... for the work i put in, and the money i saved not having to buy a new dash pad i'm pretty happy with it

haha honestly this saved me TONS of money.. a new dash pad would have cost a hell of a lot more than the 5x6 sheet i got.. i did all those interior parts, the grill insert, and i still have enough to more.

 

How plyable is this stuff? My ideas include wrapping the hood louvers on my irocs hood..thoughts? Would it work with that or is it too stiff to make the edges?

 

You will need a heat gun for anything curvy, otherwise you risk tearing it. I think doubletake or however you spell his screen name wrapped his t tops in carbon fiber and there was a guy who was going to try to make the pre 90 louvers out of real carbon fiber

 

Very pliable, using a heat gun helps even more to do complex curves etc.
I did a dash bezle like that when DiNoc 1st came out years ago. Still looks good today.

Just a bit of advice for the dash pad.
If you want to extend it beyond three year life span , you need a clear coat which has UV protection in it (since UV is what dulls the color over time). Use an auto-grade clear. and a light coat.

 

nice.. i'm wiring up the new stereo tomorrow so i'll hit it with the clear coat tonight.

 

Be careful with the clear coat. Depending on the clear coat and the vinyl you use, it can dull the carbon fiber finish and loose the checkered carbon fiber look.

 

I know you can use a good automotive paint clear and will be fine with a light coats.
