Help Taking Front Seatbelts Out
How do you get these out?
I got a Allen key that fits in it, but I couldn't get it to budge...
It's in my 84 TA parts car...

Make sure you are using a good quality T-50 Torx bit. Soak it with some PB Blaster or equivalent..Tap the socket into the bolt to make sure you have it seated well..Then use a breaker bar if you have one... If it wont budge then soak it again and try tomorrow. If you break it, its more of a pain to remove.

Re: Help Taking Front Seatbelts Out
Find the location underneath the car and apply heat just outside of the bolt to loosen the locktite and expand the retainer for the bolt. Edit: If you have two people, have one apply heat and the other try turning it so you can minimize the amount of heat used.
I've had a hard time finding a T-50 that doesn't end up twisting after doing a few of these without heat.

Re: Help Taking Front Seatbelts Out
Use a good quality Torx bit. If the bit gets twisted or broken, Lisle, Craftsman, etc will replace it free. Same with most other quality brands.
Never had to heat one. Just a 2ft long 1/2" drive breaker bar, and go slow.

It's not an allen bolt. It's a torx head. (looks like a star, sort of like this *)
T-50 size torx bit.. I use 1/2" drive T50 bit on my 1/2" air impact and that gets them out in less than 5 seconds each

Heat works great and it's less force being applied. Too good of a thing to quit doing now.

Harbour Frieght line of tools has lifetime warranties now and is much better than they used to be quality wise. But I have gotten those bolts out with a tight fitting Allen wrench and a box ended wrench for leverage in a pinch. Just go slow and if it starts to slip any stop and go buy the right stuff.

Re: Help Taking Front Seatbelts Out
IIRC, it's a T47, not a T50. Special GM-only size, specifically for seatbelts. I think I got the torx bit from AutoZone or Advance, had the GM logo on it and all.
I recommend using it with a breaker bar, seems like they're usually torqued down to about 300 ft lbs.

They aren't torqued down really high, they have loctite, or whatever gms name for it is. They are glued in pretty much.

Re: Help Taking Front Seatbelts Out
I rounded out one on those little bastards doing mine once. Had to take my grinder to it and cut the head off... Not fun.
FYI if you do mess it up, the bracket its bolted to is bolted to the car with a 10mm (i think) bolt and another t50 torx... So you do techniclly have a "second chance".
