Anyone tried to polish the instrument cluster clear plastic?

I have half of a 3M headlight restoration kit sitting there along with evil thoughts. Kit works great on plastic headlamps. Really polishes the plastic up. My cluster is a little foggyish.

Done it many times. Well worth the effort! Best way is to remove the lens and do it off the car.

PlastX here too. Worked very well, as seen in the link below.

Makes it feel like a new car, looking down at the gauges through those crystal clear lenses.

These guys are right.. most people don’t know how to properly clean clear plastic including convertible and Jeep windows.. It’s not glass so cleaning it wrong will scratch it and make it hazy..

I've used PlastX on hazy convertible rear windows, too.

PlastX here too. ......I use a drill press and a polishing buff from Northern tool...or wherever you prefer. Doing tails here, but same idea.

Using PlastX is part of my routine whenever I get a "new" car. IP lenses, convertible top windows, tail lights, turn signal lamps, etc. It's all the little things. You put all those little things together and you get a much nicer presentation.

absolutely and even newer cars.. I’ll do my Tahoe lenses a couple times/year and they still look new.. I know people with 4 year old cars starting to get hazy headlights..

I need to hit more spots on my IROC with it..

Re: Anyone tried to polish the instrument cluster clear plastic?

For more noticeable scratches I've done wet sand sequence and VS polish with excellent results. Be careful with the cluster plastic, it is really fragile, and can crack for no apparent reason....

using headlight polishing kit worked fine to fix the sanded/painted cluster plastic(previous owner blacked out fuel gauge for some reason) on my 79 c10

Re: Anyone tried to polish the instrument cluster clear plastic?

Hello,

I fly a helicopter for a large company and we go into many un-prepared areas that are very dirty.
For years, I have used toothpaste to get rid of small scratches from the wind screen. Older brands work best, such as Pepsodent.
Wash plastic throughly, dry with a soft flannel cloth and apply toothpaste with a wet piece of cheesecloth. Let dry and buff with another clean piece of cheesecloth.

Louis

NOVUS plastic polish is the only way to go. It will make lenses and other items like new.

Used 3M Headlight polish by hand. Worked great.

Re: Anyone tried to polish the instrument cluster clear plastic?

Anyone have suggestions for wiping the cluster clean of dust without scratching it? Or is the trick just to use some PlastX while you clean it?

soft damp cloth.... if it's greasy start with the cloth a bit wetter from an ice cream bucket filled with warm water, one drop of dishwashing detergent in it....
