Center console lid

I installed the lid from Classic Industries this Winter and it is really poorly made. The spring arm is held in with two pop rivets and pulled out and the hinge screws broke the plastic. It seems all the materials are very brittle. I ended up creating new hinge mounting points with an entire tube of two part epoxy where the original screws were. I made two rectangular molds around the area and filled them with epoxy. I am not going to use the spring and arm and will use a magnet to keep it closed. The spring produces too much force and there is no reinforcement to handle the forces.

Re: Center console lid

Good to know. I've got one standing by for when I put my interior back together. I got mine from Hawk's, but they're available from other sources too, so they're all probably made by OER and will have the same problem. I see the pop rivets. I just won't install the spring. My original has been broken for 20 years, so I'm sure I can get along without the spring lol.

Yep. Unfortunately, reproduction parts usually suck...

Re: Center console lid

Just take the inner cover off and pour some epoxy around the screw mounting studs to reinforce them and don't connect the spring. I added a magnet to the bottom of the lid and a metal plate from Amazon on the top of the console.

Amazon Amazon

Keeps it from bouncing around
