Am I crazy for thinking this?
I have a 2001 NBM M6 Z-28 that is mint, garage kept, low miles and fully loaded. My 87 camaro has been sitting in the garage for four years awaiting an LS1 transplant without a motor but I haven't had the time or spare cash to do the swap. It's killing me. I love my third gen, more so than my 2001. I was looking at some wrecked LS1 cars last night as well as complete motors. It seems to me the things are still overpriced so then I got this dumb idea of tearing my 2001 apart and swapping everything into my mint 87 camaro. So I'd have my favorite car running with my favorite drivetrain. Seems like a easy win win situation but I can't tear apart a perfect 4th gen LS1 camaro. What would you guys do? Say the hell with it and get the third gen running or leave the 2001 alone and buy a wrecked 4th gen for the parts? I allready have the LS1 motor mounts, headers and swap parts. Maybe I'm crazy for even considering this.

you could sell the 01 and buy a wrecked one, might give you a nice amount of spare money.

That doesn't sound like too bad of an idea. At least I would come out even considering the costs of the extra parts I may need.

Yeah, I wouldn't tear apart a perfectly good car - esp. in mint condition. It may take a little bit longer, but you should be able to find a decent deal if you keep looking.

Maybe I'm crazy too but I'd do it. If your careful and you part out the car you'll come out on top $$$ plus you'll have EVERYTHING you could ever need or want to make this swap happen. I know it sounds nuts to tear up a perfectly good car but you could start a parting out for sale thread with prices on all the parts you know you wont need and price it at a point that will make sense of this. If you get enough response and it looks financially feasible ( which I think it would be ) go for it!

Re: Am I crazy for thinking this?
At least I've all the parts I need right there in one spot. My 87 has every option my 01 has minus the steering wheel radio controls and BS like that which isn't needed. Aren't the third gens lighter than the 4th gens as well? Hmm, I'll have to think about this for a bit. My other option is to buy another LS1 car but it would be nice as well so either way I'd be tearing apart a good car.
