Hey guys. I know Ive been pretty quiet for the past forever but thats mainly due to being over 8000km away from my beloved Camaro over the past 9 months.

Last August my car decided to kill another fuel pump. This time it was a Walbro 255lph. I need to replace it.

I am aware that Walbro fuel pump manufacturing was bought by some company TI and everyone is having issues. They usually last a couple of months. Mine didnt last a season.

I am trying to do things on a budget and I dont like doing things over again so if you guys could suggest something to replace my dead Walbro it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe post up price range as well.

I am also in Canada so that makes things slightly more complicated than if I were in the US. Keep that in mind.

Have you tried Racetronix??? You can get their pump and their upgraded wiring harness and finish it properly all at once.

The pump is a modified walbro 255 but Racetronix will stand behind what they sell.

I havent looked at Racetronix but I have heard good things. If the Walbro has died and its a common thing... Will the Racetronix not die too?

 

Racetronix pumps seem to be working well, ive installed 3 of them in the past few months, all are working like a charm.

Oh, and Racetronix is located in Markham, ON. So that makes shipping a tad easier

 

Which one of their pumps would I get? The TPI/TBI one? Or one of the other ones?

I was thinking some on the fuel pump problems you and others have had.
I have not put my LS1 in yet. I still have an Accel fuel pump on my 383 Super Ram set up. I also did short track in a motorcycle engined car (Bosch pump).
My experience and observation has been that most pumps don't break, as long as they are set up with a free flowing return. WHEN the returns back up, or (worse) are left out, the pumps overheat and break. One guy I know (who drove fast and built even faster cars), looked at the 2002 ZX-12 that had the return in the gas tank. He saw just one fuel line and concluded no return was needed. The car went through several fuel pumps (and DNFs) until someone figured out what was going on.

SO, is the return as generous as the feed? Make sure your pump is not being blocked.
Also, does it have a free flowing feed? Filters want to be upstream. you can have a screen type filter, but no more. Pumps push, the do not like to suck. I think the watch word is do not mount the pump noticeably higher than the fuel source (tank). Lastly, make sure to keep all your filters clean. If you hear your fuel pump laboring, fix the problem. It should just buzz along.

I think the guys back home may have solved the issue. When my alternator died in Michigan, the guy replacing it stole my 4 gauge wire and put in a 10 gauge. Thing melted it. FML
