What's needed to run the stock dual snorkel TPI intake?
Has anyone successfully installed their dual snorkel plastic intake and filters on an LSX swap? I was going to sell those parts to the first person to give me $100, but a friend of mine suggested I keep it and use it with my swap because it would look really cool with it sitting there in the factory position. I'm also wondering what power gains or losses I might see between using that or running a typical cold air kit down behind the driver side headlight?

I've seen pics of it done & seen people redo the outlet port, opening it up to flow more air (which the LS1 will need).

1bad91z's done it (opened it up). You might try searching for his posts or PM him. I don't know if it will ever be enough air for that engine of yours though...

That's kind of what I'm thinking. It was just an idea that a friend of mine suggested so I entertained it...my philosophy is that if a regular LS1 manifold is going to hold back the potential of my motor, and I will need an LS6 or equivalent, then surely such a small airway in the stock intake tubing would hurt the potential just as much?

Re: What's needed to run the stock dual snorkel TPI intake?
From the very few threads I have seen of people modding the tpi intake for a bigger opening, it seems like a very laborous job. I would just get an appropriate sized elbow and run a custom setup off to one side. Either that or use a GTO cold air kit.
I saw you mentioned above that you were planning to use an LS1 intake; have you considered an ls2 intake? Its marginally worse than an ls6 but gets you a 90mm opening. Then you would build your cold air setup around that and then later on upgrade to say a Fast 90mm intake and not have to change anything. Since they don't perform all that much better than an ls1 intake, you might be able to pick one up for VERY cheap. The only added cost in that would be the 90mm tb but with the sale of the stock one you probably have, it won't cost much more.

I tried this first in my LS3 swap, you can see it in my thread...
The short story is it starved the motor for air and i had opened it up as well as added the TPI Ram Air chutes to force air into it
Just way to restrictive for the LS376 / 480, i suspect it is going to be still pretty marginal with a standard LS1

would a ram air setup from hawks for a Camaro TP1 help with more air . It looks like a good piece and I think one of the guys doing a swap just used it.

Yes i tried the ram air TPI piece from Hawks in my LS3 swap
It is a very nice piece but the TPI ductwork itself was still too restrictive so had to go with a big K&N 4" to get enough air
I left the ram air TPI piece in though as you can see from my post as it does then provide nice cool air inside the engine compartment in general while moving
