Re: Cheap 4" head gaskets?
EDIT: Oops... Just noticed this is in the LTx/LSx board... I just listed off a bunch of GEN I SBC gaskets,
So, what engine are you needing this for LTx or LSx? I'm not going to look through all those sites again but going of just AutoZone: Yeah, the 4" for a LSx is $60... LTx is $20... Based on that I'd bet you're after the LSx gasket...
Here's a pair on eBay for $100, might not be the right type though (MLS)?
That reminded me why I wanted to leave the heads on my 6.0L and just forego that part of the inspection, well that and the TTY bolts...
EDIT #2: Hey it looks like GMPartsDirect.com might have them for $30 each. Got part number for "6.0L Head Gasket" from here, and copy/pasted it to GMPartsDirect search. Definitely verify that PN before you buy... Possibly even contact your local dealer and see what kind of price they might have on it.

"cheap" and "head gasket" in combination really doesn't sound like a good plan to me......

I ordered a set from Summitracing.com they are the gm performance parts. Good quality good price.

So, my dynamic cylinder pressure won't be high enough to need MLS. Now, I've found composite gaskets for 3.9" bores, but that won't work on my block.

ah didnt know there was a changeover. I have an 02 Z28 and then my 03 LQ9 for my 88 they both had MLS i thought that was the norm.

Re: Cheap 4" head gaskets?
97-00 LS1's were a graphite gasket, all 01+ Gen3 motors were MLS gaskets.
As for wanting a composite gasket for a 6.0L, its not gonna happen. Almost all aftermarket companies do MLS, and if they offer a composite, only the LS1's had a composite so its gonna be a 3.910 bore.
I know its more money still, but Trick flow offers a .041" gasket, thats nice & thin, and retains the MLS holding power, and not to mention should you ever have the head off again, the MLS doesnt leave a nasty mess on the block (Trust me, ive done h/c swaps on a few different vette's/f-bodies that had original graphite gaskets, and its a bitch to clean up!)

BTW, that 483 HP at sea level, that's maybe 401 HP at my elevation. GM says the pistons are supposed to be 0.008" out of the cylinders at top dead center, so an 0.042" gasket is really pushing my luck with stock rpm, let alone reaching for 6500 rpm. Ive seen piston-to-head collision with 0.031" clearance and 6500 rpm, using all good forged aftermarket parts.

Aftermarket forged components, even factory compnents will not compress/stretch .020". Its simply not going to happen unless you've spun a bearing absolutly horribly, or a rod/piston is broken. The metal is physically incapable of that kind of movement. Its much too hard. If it had that much movement it would break.
Your stock components cannot move that much either. Running a .041" gasket is PLENTY of clearance.
A .041" gasket can boost compression a bit, but it also requires you check your valve lash cause the pushrods are basically acting like their a bit longer.
The biggest thing with a positive displacement motor, is the fact that they generally will run a gasket a bit larger then the bore. a stock gasket is about .060" larger then the bore. I actually run a 4.120 gasket on my 4.002 bore. Stock gasket is a 4.060 on a 6.0L and on a 6.2L its 4.120.
Actually on a further note, the 6.0L replacement gasket is 4.120", as their the same as the 6.2L gasket. Stock i beleive is .056" thickness. I know ZR1 9 layer MLS is .080
Anyways, this is unrelated lol. Id seriously just buy some stock MLS gaskets. Ive seen them on LS1tech for $40/pr

Re: Cheap 4" head gaskets?
I ran some felpro graphites that I bought at sdparts with head bolts and the whole kit was 60 bucks or about that. A few years back but it was what everyone was using then. Might be worth checking into
Another time I ordered one felpro from Katech and guess what it was? 4" bore so i returned it but I figured I'd mention it as they definitely make a 4" composite. It wasnt nec cheap from Katech but I needed it fast

Re: Cheap 4" head gaskets?
TFS provided this part number: 12558936. It's the GM graphite head gasket for pre-'02 LQ4. The current price? $21.85 from www.gmpartsdirect.com and if you want MLS, the LS2 gasket is 12589227, for $29.19
So now I'm $100 ahead of buying Cometics.

Re: Cheap 4" head gaskets?
i have measured a 6.2 gasket at 4.092-.094. the set i have anyway.
ive seen some of them at 4.100, but none at 4.120
thickness is closer to .054.
your block and head needs to be surfaced correctly to use the trick flow gaskets.
stick with a stock GM MLS and be done with it.

read your post about TFS/GM.
i think you should read your own thread before you tell me i cant read.
maybe i should have quoted him in my post? more or less giving you advice and trying to put out some factual numbers for you.
