Bare-bones lsx swap

Anybody do a drag-style or auto-x style lsx swap on here? I'm talking complete barebones, just keeping things necessary to drive. I'd like to see the swap time and costs as compared to someone who kept all the ammenaties

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

pretty much any of the swaps where they left the a/c off would be bare bones. I wouldn't want to drive a third gen even at the strip without power steering, and it doesn't weigh that much to get rid of it.

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

the only thing that you may save time with would be deleting the ac, otherwise i think you're going to spend more time trying to get rid of anything else. i can't think of anything you'd be deleting from the motor otherwise? power steering would be it, but then you have to swap out the gear box, meaning more time

You don't have to hook up as many wires if you're willing to live without speedometer, SES light, etc. Open headers vs. full exhaust would save time & money.

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

I am in process of a drag build.
My original build plan was a BBC/glide for bracket racing.

But I cam across a great deal on a very low mileage LS1.
Carb'd with MSD controller using factory coil packs
Manual Steering (S10 manual steering box)
Mopar style master cylinder - manual brakes

I hope to be IHRA legal to 10.00s for under $10K in parts.
It's gonna be close. I am taking pics and will do a build thread this winter.

Thats a little more along the lines of what I was thinking. I'd like to do a swap in the near future but I want to keep it f.i. All I would want in the inside of the vehicle for gauges would be tach, water temp, oil pressure, and volts. And then wiring for blinkers and exterior lights. Also I would want to mount the pcm under the hood--this would probably help tracing engine related shorts if need be.

Also I would want to ditch all smog equipment and just keep the bare minimum to keep fuel injection working. And a small underhood fuel cell would likely go in too to further simplify things.

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

like this? cnc ported ls6 headed 370ci, th400. i kept powersteering, i love to drive the car on the street too much...

it'll get more bare bones as money permits. i'd like to do an electric water pump, and figure out a way to get some more weight out of the car. it currently has a stock hood with a scoop on it...but i'm looking to do something different for the hood.

don't make fun of the scoop too bad...it doesn't seem to picture very well. i get alot of comments on it in person. mainly, it's there for mere functionality as my cowl hood was not going to work with 122mph trap speeds, and the cost of a new hood is beyond what i can reach right now.

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

nah its not that bad looking..but i bet a glass hood and lexan windshield and hatch would get you in the 10s..

as far as how clean your engine bay is--if you switched to electric water pump you would be able to ditch two pulleys at once..the ac delete and wp..then all you would be missing is that s10 box

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

i had one, i switched back.

the car has the mph to go 10's already, just gotta get the thing to 60' a bit better. i'm working on things on for that now. i also found a partially seized front caliper, which i'm sure was scrubbing some mph off.

while this car is "bare bones", it's still a street car, no lexan for me...as it sits, it's 3465lbs going down the track. but i'm 300lbs, so as it sits, th car is 3165, which isn't too terribly bad for a full steel car with an iron 6.0l, th400, and moser 9".

Re: Bare-bones lsx swap

Dont know what the weight of mine is yet, but i have a water pump and alternator, no power steering, went with the S10 manual box, i am a big guy but it still sucks sometimes(I refuse to drive after working out in the gym, nearly wrecked once), otherwise, it was like dropping in a stock V8 with the MSD 6010 controller, hot and ground and the rest hooked to the engines stock cam and crank sensor as well as stock coils, fired right up and i tuned it myself.

Looks good ZONES89RS. .

I like the Alternator Bracket/Pulley set up.

Did you buy it or make it?
