1991 Camaro RS LS1/T56 Swap Thread
To start off lets explain a little bit about my Camaro.
It's a 350 with a T5 Swap. I have had nothing but problems with it. Now finally, I spun a bearing so I am just going to bite the bullet and drop a LS1 into it.
I plan to buy a SS Camaro that is wrecked. I found a 2002 Camaro that looks promising. It's totaled in the front. But the motor isn't pushed back and air bags did not go off. My first question of hundreds to come:
Is 134k miles on a LS1 motor a lot? I know it depends on maintence and etc, but I just want the average life of a LS1. I put about 500 miles on my car a week so I am hoping to have it last at least a year.
Just so you have an idea, this is what I am swapping over from the Camaro:
Motor and T56
Rear end (Need the extra 2 inchs on bothsides)
Axle
Seats
Gas tank
Front and Rear brakes
I have more questions on those things but I will get to those once I get the motor and everything installed.

It will last you a year if you don't beat on it. Some get away w/ throwing heads and cams after 100k miles but you don't see too many LS1's in the 200k mile range.
If possible do a leak down test before purchasing.

134k is nothing for a properly maintained LSx engine. Do a compression check and see. Also pop a valve cover and look for sludge build up. It's not uncommon for 200k mile engines to still show lots of cyl crosshatching
For your list, forget the 4th gen gas tank, not worth the problems. Rest looks good

This is going to be a long build because I am still gathering money but I still have my eye on that one donor car. Just comes down to if I can get the money in time, which if I can sell all my previous sbc stuff I could no problem. In otherwords, BUY MY SBC STUFF IN THE CLASSIFIEDS SECTION!
Thanks!

agreed; the LS1 block i have had 160k+ on it and the cylinder walls still have quite a bit of the crosshatches. better fuel control and better gasket design are just a couple reasons why these things are built to last. 100k is nothing to worry about if it looks clean under the valve covers.

So that donor car ended up going for too much. I found another one but it was wrecked really bad. Can anyone tell me if it's a 6 speed? I can't tell lol also what can you see about the motor that I wouldn't know? Whats that thing hooked to the brakes lines? Is that stock?

The long boot appears to be for a manual, but I cant find the clutch reservoir under the hood anywhere. Ask the seller
The block under the master cyl is for ABS. Some 4th gens delete it. Its an 01-02 too so you get the LS6 intake and a few extra OEM upgrades. The aftermarket lid should be worth a few bucks too. Worthless for your 3rd gen though

EDIT: For some reason when you said lid I thought you meant hood even though I called it a SLP lid. UGhhh :P

You got a PM with my deepest darkest secret lol. But the auction is tomorrow, wish me luck!!! I am hoping to win if for around 1500. I know its a long shot but it's all I got right now lmao.
My only saving grace:
This thing has not one straight piece on it! Unfortunately I cannot use the seats but I will live. If I can get it for the price I want I will be happy.

Re: 1991 Camaro RS LS1/T56 Swap Thread
Its a 6 speed i can see the shifter. the clutch cyl is tucked under the cowl thats why you cant see it. I used the 4th gen tank and fuel lines on mine I thing its a good idea to use them if you have them and they are easy to get in. I wish I took the brakes off the 4th gen donor when i had it oh well...
If you need some help with it just hit me up cuz we are pretty close to each other.
Heres a list of what I used from the 4th gen donor I had:
Motor and trans...Duh
Radiator
Cooling Fans
Drive Shaft
Gas tank
Fuel Lines
Clutch Master Cyl
Wire Harness
PCM
Some other random wiring and connectors
Radiator hoses
Gauge cluster
Dash wiring
Exhaust manifolds
I say use EVERYTHING you can off the 4th gen and sell whatever is left thats is good. I made my harness with the 4th gen and 3rd gen harness so I can help you there too.
Now im planning a LSx swap for my 95 Tahoe so im on the hunt for a 5.3 or 6.0 for the right price lol.

Ended up going for 2400. Still a great price for both LS1 and T-56. But I can't afford it right now. Coulda sold the headers SLP lid spoiler and all that kind of stuff and lowered it down to probably a 1500 dollar build but oh well.
